Obama Reaches Out to Religion Newswriters Association

Friday September 19, 2008

Categories: Barack Obama

reporterbook.jpgIn 2004, Christianity Today couldn't get the John Kerry campaign to return its phone calls. Today, by contrast, the Obama campaign has sent out an invitation to religion reporters in Washington, DC attending the annual Religion Newsriters Association conference to attend a just-scheduled briefing on is faith outreach operation. Hundreds of reporters are attending the conference, so it should be some briefing.

The "faith outreach operation" consists in part of Obama surrogates trying to persuade people of faith that Obama would reduce abortions. That is just is a public relations product cooked up at liberal think tanks like Third Way, where veteran pro-abortion activists specialize in developing strategies to help hard-core pro-abortion politicians camouflage their positions. The truth is, there are more than one million Americans alive today because of the Hyde Amendment, but Obama calls for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment and tax-funded abortion on demand -- the very opposite of "abortion reduction." Pro-life states laws -- for example, women's right to know laws, waiting periods, and parental notification laws -- are saving countless lives, but Obama is a cosponsor of the so-called "Freedom of Choice Act," which would invalidate every one of these laws. Obama even advocates repeal of the ban on partial-birth abortions. I have faith that most people of faith are not so easily snookered.

Mr. Johnson:

If you possess so much as an ounce of integrity, you would directly state your desire. Go ahead and say it:

"I, Douglas Johnson, demand that the government force pregnant rape victims to carry their rapists' unborn babies to term."

Then you should go on to tell us exactly what sort of punishment you would have the government inflict on a pregnant rape victim if she chose to defy the government and terminate her pregnancy (since you believe the rape victim would be committing an act of murder).

Go ahead, Mr. Johnson. Tell us. We're waiting.

What has been lacking in the Religious Right Rhetoric, is the compassion of Christ. Christianity Today is more open to the Social Gospel now that it was in the Clinton years. I hope they are open to the invitation of the Obama campaign. It is obvious that McCain doesn't have a faith outreach, he just has Sarah Palin as his missionary.

Gobot:

Just how many rape victims are there having babies out there? Go ahead and say it - what is the % anyway?

"I Gobot, am using the rape card to protect abortion rights in general, and use it as justification for the killing of millions of babies each year, as a form of birth control."

Go ahead, Gobot. Tell us. We're waiting.

Hi Scoty. Thank you for posting in reference to my previous post. It was kind of you to check in. To repeat my request of Douglas Johnson:

"Then you should go on to tell us exactly what sort of punishment you would have the government inflict on a pregnant rape victim if she chose to defy the government and terminate her pregnancy (since you believe the rape victim would be committing an act of murder)."

If you would like to serve as Mr. Johnson's unauthorized surrogate, you are more than welcome to provide a response on your own behalf, as Mr. Johnson does not (as of yet, at least) seem to possess the integrity to personally state his own position. I would be happy to answer your question about the percentage of pregnant rape victims once you have told us how you would like the government to punish them for aborting the products of their assualts. The ball's in your court, Scoty. Have at it. And please try to stay on topic this time.
