On The Religious Left, Great Expectations
The first priorities for Barack Obama's administration will be the economy and a variety of foreign policy issues. But the burgeoning religious left, which worked so hard to get Obama elected, expects some movement on its issues, including a robust White House office of faith-based initiatives, pove

Howard Dean's Vindication
God-o-Meter wrote a piece for today's Roll Call on the vindication of Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean's much-derided 50-State Strategy, which is largely about reaching out to the nation's more religious voters in the red states:
Years before Barack Obama showed that a liberal Demo

A Post-Election Chat with Ralph Reed
Amid today's talk that Barack Obama has narrowed the God Gap, God-o-Meter checked in with Ralph Reed, who spearheaded religious outreach for George W. Bush's 2000 and 2004 campaigns and who pioneered such outreach for Republicans as executive director of the Christian Coalition.

More Innacurate Faith Storylines From the Media
God-o-Meter is struck by the number of faith-based storylines the news media appear to have gotten dead wrong this year.
One was the line that Obama was poised to make big gains among white votes, especially evangelicals, who were undergoing a generational shift in their political thinking and reexa

I think this shows the bias of the God O Meter. Obama isn’t enough against abortion so he loses a point.
McCain panders to the extremist side of Christianity and goes up 4 points.
I really hope that those that only care about abortion being repealed are happy with the cost. For negative unfounded accusations from the McCain and 527 groups about their opponent should merit a 0. Or am I mistaken about what Jesus said about this kind of behavior? Or because Jesus used raca and you fool and they did not its ok?

Pleased that Obama is right on… McCain wants death for more women.
ALL choice is govenment’s ????? Remember… govt. knows best, both in marriage acts and reporoduction and ALL WOMENS ISSUES.. did i mention mcPin and his ILK are vehemently aginst PREVENTING UNWANTED PREGNANCIES AS WELL!!???!!!
It’s simply much more FUN to destroy both fetus and female with unhappy lives and circumstances.
Prevention of pregnancies would be too boring and not cause enuf RAGE and furvor among those who love hate.(-’Evangelical’ Voters) Logic and prevention are too calming and cool headed. not enuf pulse racing excitement/incitement for them… -oh well.

Just another wonderful example of when god thinks or hates exactly as you do. This is a sign that the god you worship is of your own creation.
A woman should be the only one to determine if she keeps the pregnancy or not. Not anyone else and especially not the RR, whose only desire is to have control over everyones life in this country.

God-o-Meter struggled with whether to drop Obama’s rating on this one. Aren’t there plenty of religious folks who support a woman’s right to choose? Of course. But the fact is that the pro-life movement is a faith-based one and pro-choice Americans tend to be less religious. So a rigorously pro-choice dropping his GOM rating seems to make sense. Others have taken GOM to task for not dropping Obama’s reading enough, given that he’s pro-choice.

I am so glad that Obama respects the private choices of women and does not want the government making them for us. If only the anti-choice groups would use all that energy to look after the many neglected and abused children in this country, it would be wonderful.
It’s funny – when I first looked at the God-o-Meter, I thought it was a good thing to be low on it. I thought it meant that you had some humility and didn’t claim to know “the will of God.”
