Washington Post Cartoon Targets Palin's Faith

Thursday September 18, 2008

Categories: John McCain
politicalcartoon.gif The Washington Post has printed this cartoon poking fun of Sarah Palin's former Pentecostalism. Brody has the understandably indignant response from the Assemblies of God. Update:A reader notes that it was washingtonpost.com, not the paper's print edition, that carried the cartoon. Post ombudsmand Deborah Howell alludes to the disctinction in her explanation of the incident, which strikes God-o-Meter as slippery; she doesn't stand by the cartoon or denounce it. After receiving 350 letters about it, shouldn't the Post offer some time of defense--or apology?

Apollo is right. Racism is racism and Obama sat in the pews of a racist church for 20 years. Somehow the left thinks that Obama's 20 years of ties to a racist church is okay but Sarah Palin having been involved with a church that believes in the speaking of tongues (differently than I believe) is something to ridicule. Give me a break. This cartoon shows a huge amount of immaturity and makes a mockery of the beliefs earnestly held by millions of Americans. I could care less whether thy put it on their website or print edition, the fact is that the Washington Post put it out there.

I know it is fashionable on the left to ridicule religion and Sarah Palin, so I doubt the Post even thought two seconds about using this cartoon. It's a shame that they have no problems ridiculing religion.

TC: "I know it is fashionable on the left to ridicule religion..."

Sorry, but it's not just "fashion" that lead some of us to "ridicule religion."

Based on a couple of Biblical verses, Pentecostals fall down, roll around, and babble nonsense. Sorry, but that's the way it looks to me. Hooey.

Just because someone earnestly holds a belief - whether in Bigfoot, flying saucers, or speaking in tongues - that doesn't require the rest of us to breathlessly tiptoe around. How do you, TC, feel about sacrificing goats to Kali, the Goddess of Death (Hinduism)? An evil alien dumping millions of people into a volcano from his spaceship (Scientology)? Killing authors who commit blasphemy (Islam)? The idea that Native Americans, despite all available evidence, were Jews who came over from the Middle East(LDS)? Handling snakes and drinkiing poison (Pentecostal)? Sacrificing chickens to feed the gods (Santeria)? All worthy of equal respect? How about suicide bombings in the cause of Allah, then, surely an earnestly held belief?

If an idea doesn't stand up to the truth test, it's open to criticism. And since Palin herself has made much of her religion (even publicly implying, without apparent irony, that prayers to Jesus got her elected), whatever nonsense she might espouse (hard to actually tell, since she doesn't give interviews)is fair game for public comment.

Harsh? At least we atheists aren't going around - like Protestants, Catholics, Muslims, and many more - slaughtering people on account of their religions.

Reverend Wright, the anti American pastor is better to have visiting the White House.

Obama is frightening.

Louis Farrakhan had a rally with 20,000 Nation of Islam worshippers supporting Obama.

That is really frightening.

Obama is embarrassing.

As you all may or may not be aware, the WashingtonPost.com posted a cartoon of Sarah Palin, McCain and "God". This cartoon was very offensive and showed how the Washington Post is bias and Anti-Christian. Although the Post states that they are fair and non-political and tolerant of religions, this cartoon shows and proves that they are not. Many letters have been sent to the Editor who has responded with a formal "canned" response about the Washington Post 5th amendment. The Washington Post stated last year that they would NOT post the Muslim cartoon (click link below). This is why the Washington Post is not a reliable source and this should be pointed out in the media.

Protest the Post is now organizing a media blitz to bring this cartoon and the Washington Post's actions to light. Many of the talk shows have been contacted as well as Christian organizations around the US. We are asking for Christians to sign up on our site and post your views. We will be organizing a protest on the steps of the Washington Post Headquarters in DC in the near future.

It is time for the Christians to unite with one voice and stand up to the media to protect our values and faith in this crucial time in our country.
