More Worldview Talk from Sarah Palin

posted by dgilgoff | 2:14pm Friday October 3, 2008

worldview.jpgGod-o-Meter has proposed that when Sarah Palin uses the term “world view” she means biblical worldview.

Here’s how she used the phrase in last night’s debate:

But even more important is that world view that I share with John McCain. That world view that says that America is a nation of exceptionalism. And we are to be that shining city on a hill, as President Reagan so beautifully said, that we are a beacon of hope and that we are unapologetic here. We are not perfect as a nation. But together, we represent a perfect ideal. And that is democracy and tolerance and freedom and equal rights. Those things that we stand for that can be put to good use as a force for good in this world.

The world view she described was fairly dripping with metaphysical imagery:

we represent a perfect ideal

we are to be that shining city on a hill

America is a nation of exceptionalism

Not to mention her invocation of Ronald Reagan, who’s been accorded deity status by many conservatives.

On The Religious Left, Great Expectations
The first priorities for Barack Obama's administration will be the economy and a variety of foreign policy issues. But the burgeoning religious left, which worked so hard to get Obama elected, expects some movement on its issues, including a robust White House office of faith-based initiatives, pove

God-o-Meter wrote a piece for today's Roll Call on the vindication of Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean's much-derided 50-State Strategy, which is largely about reaching out to the nation's more religious voters in the red states: Years before Barack Obama showed that a liberal Demo

More Innacurate Faith Storylines From the Media
God-o-Meter is struck by the number of faith-based storylines the news media appear to have gotten dead wrong this year. Someone please correct me if I am wrong … but was Gov. Palin reading from a script. I thought this was clearly an “unscripted” process. I had read somewhere that Gov. Palin was being “drilled” on how to handle herself in this VP Debate. If both are true … then who is the “real” Sarah Palin without being “primped, positioned & presented” to the American people? How far is the Republican Party willing to go to hand Palin over to us … and at what cost? Just curious.

While Sarah Palin did better than I thought she would do, she was unable to answer (or refused to respond) some questions and made the debate sound like a stump speech. I was not that surprised. She wanted us to think of her as the “Lady of the North” who will straighten McCain out on taxing the oil industry. I somehow got the impression that we should call her, Holy Sarah, the Mother of America.
She kept referring to her and McCain as a pair of mavericks. but Honest Joe told her that McCain was not a maverick on things that mattered. To me that was the best line of the night.

Talking about scripted… has anyone been double checking Slow Joe to find out if he’s been plagirizing this time around? After all, he dropped out in 88 when he was caught.

While it may be dripping with metaphysical imagery, this is not a description of a biblical worldview, not if you include the New Testament in the Bible. The world view Gov. Palin describes is one of human perfection. Her statements attempt to portray herself, her running mate and this country as saviors of the world, as the perfect ideal.
The Bible teaches that there is only one perfect ideal – Christ – and only one hope for salvation – the grace of God, freely given through the death of Christ on the cross.

Really? Does Palin really portray herself as the world’s savior or as perfect? God-o-Meter thinks that assertion goes too far.

Really. Really, she does. The original post has these exact words, twice. “…we represent a perfect ideal.” Once in the quote of Gov. Palin and once in the original posters examples of metaphysical imagery.
The only ambiguity in this statement made by Palin is what exactly she means by “we”. The quote opens with “…I share with John McCain.” Is that the “we” she refers to? She also says “America is…”. Most times, I would parse the word “America” as a singular noun, the name of a country. Did she use “we” to refer to the American people, whom she did not mention in the paragraph or did she use “we” to refer to herself and McCain?
Either way she has portrayed a perfect ideal other than Christ. This portrayal is absolutely non-biblical.

Most readers here have probably already seen this, Why Is Palin Such a Good Liar For God?, but this woman’s worldview really scares me.
