Verse of the Day: Solidarity in Suffering
For the hurt of my poor people I am hurt, I mourn, and dismay has taken hold of me. Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has the health of my poor people not been restored?

Your translation "of my poor people" is not coming from the Hebrew. A more proper translation is: "of the daughter of my people," which, when reading Jeremiah, holds greater theological significance.

I agree with RevDr. here. So many of the "contemporary language" translations water down the theological significance of passages like this one. "Daughter of my people" is certainly more loaded with meaning than "my poor people." Peace,
