Verse of the Day: Practicing Piety
Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven. So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
- Matthew 6:1-4

I was listening last night to the new president of the National Association of Evangelicals stating that Christians should not push a two issue platform (abortion and homosexuality) but expand their vision to such things as poverty, peace-making, global warming, etc. I thought "That sounds just like Jim Wallis and company!" I am thankful during this Thanksgiving season for your perseverence and influence which I'm sure had a significant part in this welcome change. I have held on to Jim's article, "A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" from May, 1986 and shared it with quite few people.
