Verse of the Day: 'neither shall they learn war any more'

Many peoples shall come and say,
"Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob;
that he may teach us his ways
and that we may walk in his paths."
For out of Zion shall go forth instruction,
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
He shall judge between the nations,
and shall arbitrate for many peoples;
they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war any more.

Isaiah 2:3-4

This verse from Isaiah would suggest that "Forgive your enemies" and "He who lives by the sword dies by the sword" is not just good advice for personal relationships--God expects the same from nations. God will judge nations for their actions in the world.

God will judge nations for their actions in the world.

Correction: God is judging nations for their actions in the world. God's judgment is an ongoing, present reality, not something that's relegated only to the distant future. Amos said, "Prepare to meet your God, O Israel" (4:12)! Jeremiah said, "Know (or "consider") what you have done" (2:23).

Peace,

OK, God is judging us in the present. That means that we, as a nation, are now being judged for starting an unjust war, for not welcoming the strangers, for not providing a just wage, for charging interest on loans, and for not providing universal health coverage, among other things. At least, that's what Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Amos would say.

Absolutely.
