Verse of the Day: 'Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them'

Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them; I kept my heart from no pleasure, for my heart found pleasure in all my toil, and this was my reward for all my toil. Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had spent in doing it, and again, all was vanity and a chasing after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.

- Ecclestiastics 2:10-11

That verse is so apt for me today. I have just invested in a new computer; I think it was really necessary--my present one appears to be dying. But it is hurting my pocketbook. I've had to make a resolution, and not giving up something for Lent. No more impulse buying of books online. No more magazine subscriptions for a long time to come: my mailbox is already overstuffed. So many of my purchases have really been "vanity."
