A Shout Out to Amy Sullivan (by Rose Marie Berger)

SojoFriend Amy Sullivan is popping up everywhere in the news with her new book The Party Faithful: How and Why Democrats are Closing the God Gap. (It's excellent! See an excerpt in the March issue of Sojourners magazine) We remember back in 2001 when Amy wrote her first review in Sojourners on Stephen Carter's book God's Name in Vain.

Amy has worked tremendously hard these last several years. She was an editor at the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life (with Washington Post columnist and SojoFriend E.J. Dionne Jr. See the recent Sojourners excerpt from E.J.'s new book Souled Out.) and at the Washington Monthly. She ran a great blog for awhile on "(Almost) Daily Thoughts on Political Happenings" and somewhere in there she slid in a Ph.D. at Princeton in Religion and Politics.

For the woman who dreamed of being a pundit, we think she's achieved star status with her most recent job as Nation editor at Time magazine. For more on SojoFriend Amy Sullivan, see Salon's recent interview with her. Go Amy!

Rose Marie Berger is an assistant editor for Sojourners.

for a "movement" that is supposedly so bi-partisan and non-political, they sure do make a big deal about the surging of the "Christian democrat"!

What does it take to be dubbed a "SojoFriend"? Can I be one?

I guess I have to write a book talking about how the Christians of today aren't looking at politics like Christians of yesterday. But by the time I write my book the market will be saturated with these books and people will be so tired of this theme. What I really need to do is find the issue that will fascinate Sojo next year and get ahead of the trend! Bingo!

Steve this is a pro democrat web site , expanding the issues is not as important to Jim Wallis as it is that the issues winning from a democrat view .

He is right , Christians should be talkin about the envirnoment , unfortunately he does not consider some of the people who are being hurt by those government regulations , nor does he promote Christians talking about if the envirnomental regulations indeed are working or merited .

But he is right , Christians should be discussing it and speaking to how we should be making sure our envirnoment is taken care of .

Steve S and Eric:

Thank you for rejoicing with those who rejoice.

canuck...is that a suggested topic for my book?

Eric: "canuck...is that a suggested topic for my book?"

Is your book on 1 Corinthians 13?

Point, please?

Is your book on 1 Corinthians 13?

United we stand , Divided Politicians Win .

Carl...Unfortunately, the many weddings I've been to have almost ruined my appreciation for the powerful message of that Chapter. It's a shame it's become so cliched.

Point, please?

Nice try.

I am reading Amy's book now. It's pretty interesting. I hope this book and others like it prove that liberals and Democrats are not god haters.

Unfortunately, Sojo has now become even more of a PAC; they are so self-promoting. They peddle, push, and promote each other's merchandise like a really powerful PAC.

They even have media "friends" who influence front page news and television headlines. Kinda makes you think that the power is going to their heads.

I mean, with Jim on the book tour (promoted by Sojo's desire for visibility)--cant do anything without an endorsement from John Stewart and Stephen Colbert--Sojo is now hitting the big time. Everyone that they say is important to their "movement" is crowned king or queen, prince or princess.

What a wild, "Xian" PAC.

"What a wild, "Xian" PAC."

Jim Wallis is from Xian, China?

"Jim Wallis is from Xian, China?"

He's certainly more than just a terracotta warrior.
