Video: Has the Religious Right Lost Its Way?

Jim Wallis talks with Tony Perkins (Family Research Council), Harry Jackson (High Impact Leadership), and Sammy Rodriguez (National Hispanic Leadership Conference) about the broadening evangelical agenda. Watch it:

Comments

Sammy Rodriguez was right on . Wallis speaking to the Evangelicals leaving the republican party is right on also . They are not becoming democrats , and as some here describe them , know they are not welcome .

They are independents , and will vote for the best choices that represent their values . As Sammy stated , Latino Evangelicals are as committed to many of the same issues .

The religious right is not turning into the religious left , if the religious left wants to move their agendas, the word compromise will need to be used . A word foreign to many in the religious right movement . And they will have to make a choice also , deal with the secular left of their party , basicaly the part that controls it or learn to speak with their Latino, and independent white Brothers and sisters.

Because political parties once they get you , have a way of forgetting you .

This was a good video I thought ,

drat... youtube... BLOCKED at work!!! curses.

It's too bad that Sammy had to sound so racial, he was on a good track until his oneupsmanship of Tony, got the better of him. Bible-believing Christians are unhappy with the GOP because too many Republicans are acting like secular-leftists in moral and legislative behavior. If, at the end of the day, Jim and "the left" is still pushing support of promiscuity in "safe-sex" teaching and encouraging gross immorality in "same-sex" marriage, they will never have a dialogue with "Bible-believing" Christians, no matter what label is applied to them circa 2008. To be a Christian concerned with the Gospel (Evangel), doing what the Lord said is more important than winning an election. And it always will be.

It's good to see evangelicals turning to Christ again, and stop trusting in the GOP to pass laws to save sinners, and curtail sin. God had to move Christians out of their comfort zone. Christians has been thinking that by aligning themself with the GOP IS FULFILLING THE GREAT COMMISSION. A shameful situation.

LJ, It is the Left through Democrat legislation that is literally trying to force their religious views on the populace. No matter if it is called the social Gospel, it is still tax good families and honest hard working people to pay for the licentiousness, apathy and sloth of the less moral. Legalizing the way the Left views the Bible is attempted by Democrats every single day. One good thing about Obama's Church is that they do realize that it is intact families with the father committed to HIS children that will make society better. Man, now THAT is progressive.

Care for the widow and the orphan is the responsibility of the church - Wallis promotes larger Gov't programs and just wants the congregations to let gov't handle the problem. Individuals and congregations can have more effect on individuals and groups in a productive manner than any Gov't agency could ever hope to do. (personally - gov't and morality should rarely be used in the same sentence) There are so many issues that I have dealt with in my community and metro area. Most of what I have done has been to assist the economically challenged. Assisting in the education of their children. Underwriting their kid’s ability to participate in community activities. Securing the equipment that a number of organizations that work directly with at risk people in the greater metro area. To be honest - Dobson and Kennedy have challenged me along with my own pastor to be the 'Jesus' that people need to see. (I have chosen to remain anonymous in most cases) The Mondales and Wellstones of MN have never caused me to get involved with my fellow man - they like Wallis want the Gov't to do the work, just give them the money and shut up. I have never been a two issue conservative like Wallis and Co have stated in the past and still try to label us as.

Do I believe that Conservatives are changing - I hope so...some need to. Do I believe that they are leaving the Rep. party like Wallis says - some might but I don't think so. I believe that there has been a large group of conservatives that have been involved is several issues of the day. I think that Wallis just might be finding out that is the case. Many people have done great and wonderful things for their fellow man. Done it because it is what Christ would have us do. (it a right and left hand thing to me) Many of us do not feel the need to take the time to establish a foundation and secure a pulpit for our message so that we can say 'look at me - look at me - buy my book'.

Little is much when God is in it, and more has been done for the Kingdom by individuals that we will never hear about than all the 'Christian-Political' organizations put together.

Blessings -
.

Yet again, I will point out that there are people working full time for less than the cost of living. For those who are moral ignoramuses, that means working more than a 40 hour week for less than the cost of food, clothing, housing, transportation, and medical care for themselves and their families. Until the glorious Free Market so many self described Christians worship agrees to pay the full cost of labor, the government will have to step in and force it to do so. What are the alternatives? preaching to the sociopathic oligarchs doesn't work. They just profess religion and think they are going to heaven despite being thieves and murderers.

It's great that Christians in America are beginning to realize that political parties are always trying to manipulate them for political purposes. The Evangelicals are credited for electing Bush twice. There is another huge problem and that is the fact that American Christianity is sandwich with patriotism and sometimes that is how it sells around the world. I am not an American but a a very serious observer of American politics. Most American churches have the American flag in it. most teleevangelist who preach and are broadcast around the world have the flag flying behaind them and some people who hate America's foriegn policy are put off because they identify Christianity with America's foriegn policy. I do not agree with Rev Wright, but one thing that anyone who seriously studies American foriegn policy will agree with him that some of the policies around the world are creating many enemies. The irony too is that there is no nation that is doing so much good around the world and spreading Christianinity than the USA. I was surprised that Tony perkin in an interview was ready to criticize Rev Wright without listening to the complete semon. It's on you tube. I agree that Christians should not be associated with any of the parties especially when you hear the liberal policies of the democrates ofr the deviant behaviors of GOP leaders and hateful talk of the talk radio. I was shock that they were ready to destroy Huckabee because he is a Christian and not from their club.
