Almost 40 years ago in my first year in ministry, I learned that I was not then, would likely never be the most spiritually mature, the most biblically learned nor the most spiritually gifted within the congregation. What I brought was a theological training, the availability of full time participation, and the network of resources essential to prioritize ministry plans and goals. Wendell Berry is one of those non-professional spiritual leaders who brings a wisdom to the church family that is lacking in many professionals. It is good consider some of the questions he raises, an the values he embodies.
