America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon is a guy who almost wasn’t. His mother got pregnant at 17 and had no plans to have the baby. She went to a clinic several times but could never convince herself to go through with the procedure. The last time she went, she heard a voice. Some years later she related the story to Nick, he was so touched that he wrote the song “Can I Live” from his perspective in the womb. Perhaps it was his voice she heard, begging for a chance at life. The multi-talented Cannon is now a father, he and his wife Mariah Carey had twins just a few weeks ago. Cannon says he made the song, not to pass judgment on others, but as a personal thank you to his mother. The last verse makes that very clear.
I ain’t passing no judgement
Ain’t making no decisions
I am just telling ya’ll my story
I love life
I love my mother for giving me life
We all need to appreciate life
A strong woman that had to make a sacrifice
Thanks for listening
Thanks for listening
Mama thanks for listening

Thanks Nick
Your story sounds almost like mind. My mother was told by my father to abort, but thanks to my mother I am here. I need to always remember to thank my mom everyday and show her my love. And try not to judge my father.

To me,
Nick Cannon has always had the most sincerest appeal held by any young man. Even on that show where everyone is bustin’on each other, he still has that steak of decency and fun-loving sense of self. This message to his mother only adds to what I thought of him from the very beginning; and I’m a mother too. Thank you Nick Cannon form being the person you are. And, I hope you and Mariah have many years of happiness and friendship throughout your relationship.
Sincerely,
Ms. Rita

Nick – I am thanking God for your mother and so many like her. There are so many stories like yours. I heard one where the husband was at his wits end with bills and couldn’t see his way and especially didn’t want or need another mouth to feed or child to clothe so he told his wife to abort also. She told him “I’d leave you first!” He later spoke of the funny little guy he now loves and how he can’t believe how his son brings so much joy and laughter into the home and how he is so glad his wife didn’t listen to him. In my own family a precious lady found herself in the actual chair disrobed and waiting for the procedure but she felt a presence come into the room and she began to shake, she grabbed her slacks and ran out. Later she found her baby band from when she was born and it had her son’s birthdate on it to the day as her baby I. D. None of us are mistakes. Love, KS
