Pick of the Week: Superchick’s “Rock What You Got”

It’s been three years since Superchick released a new studio project, but on Tuesday, June 24 the sister-fronted rock band is back with Rock What You Got.
With their signature powerhouse rock, pop/punk sound the album is everything Superchick fans love about the band, and more.
The band made an intentional effort to leave nothing on the table with this album, pushing to the edge and beyond in an effort to, well, rock with everything they’ve got.
“I told the band, ‘Everything you do, I want it to be more,” says keyboardist Max Hsu, who also produced the album. “If we are going to be rock, let’s be more rock. If we are going to be punk, let’s be more punk. If we are going to touch metal, let’s really do metal. I just wanted to fire all the barrels.”
And that’s exactly what the band does, from the rocking title cut, “Rock What You Got,” to the beautiful and melodic “Breathe” to the electro-rock girl-power anthem, “So Beautiful.” Also included on the album is the hard-to-find radio version of the single “Stand in the Rain,” from Beauty From Pain 1.1, which spent 13 straight weeks at No. 1.
The message on the album is to persevere, to push through, to give life everything you’ve got without holding back. It’s a message the band has learned first-hand over the last few years and something they wanted to challenge listeners to do as well.
In a unique move, the band’s label, InPop, released three different singles from the album to three different radio formats: “Crawl” to AC radio, “Hold” to CHR radio, and “Hey Hey” to Rock radio.
Rock What You Got is a non-stop rocking party with a message, which makes it my Pick Of The Week. The album releases June 24. A 3-song digital EP is available now on iTunes.

I haven’t heard anything off this newest CD. But I look forward to it. They have an edge to their music — and yet, it is stil a little pop-like. I can’t wait to pick up the CD.
