Monday Morning Trivia: ANSWER

Wednesday June 18, 2008

Our Monday Morning Trivia question this week was:

Q: Which legendary guitarist had a sister who appeared in the epic movie, "The 10 Commandments?"

And the answer is ...

PhilKeaggy.jpg
ANSWER: Phil Keaggy

Phil's older sister, who went by the stage name Mary Ellen Caye, appeared in the movie, "The 10 Commandments." She was in the scene where Pharoh's daughter discovers Moses in a basket. Her line: "Make sure it's not a crocodile."

Phil credits his sister with introducing him to Jesus.

Phil Keaggy's career has spanned more than 30 years, and included over 50 solo albums, both vocal and instrumental, as well as 8 releases with his band, Glass Harp.

Widely recognized for his phenomenal guitar playing as well as his vocal and songwriting prowess, Phil has received numerous accolades and awards for his music, including seven Dove Awards and a Grammy nomination. He was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame last year.

It's been said that Eric Clapton was once asked what it was like to be the world's greatest guitar player, and he replied, "I don't know, ask Phil Keaggy." Urban legend? Maybe. But I wouldn't be surprised if it were true. Phil Keaggy is that respected in the music world, both in and out of the Christian community.

He recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of his 1978 release, The Master and The Musician, a blend of English and Celtic folk, rock, jazz and neo-classical that back then challenged preconceptions of what "Christian music" should sound like.

His latest release, The Song Within, is currently available from Autumn Records. Soothing, jazzy instrumentals and airy pop makes this a great introduction to this legendary artist.

Wow, that is truly an obscure reference. How do you ever know these things! I never would have gotten that. But I do like the line about the crocodile. I wish I had said it. Plus, she got to wear the cool Egyptian cat-eye eyeliner.

Now this guy belongs on Guitar Hero and Rock Band.
If you haven't seen Phil Keaggy play guitar, you need to very badly.
