Delirious to disband

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 7:05am Tuesday July 22, 2008

Delirious.jpgOn the heels of the news in April that Stew Smith was leaving Delirious comes news that lead vocalist Martin Smith is also leaving, and with that, the group will officially disband. Smith is leaving to spend more time with his family and to focus on the ministry he helped found, Compassionart.

In an interview earlier this year for a story I was doing on the Compassionart project (which got a dozen songwriters together to pen songs, with all proceeds going to charity) and the success of the project, Martin Smith told me:

“We didn’t set out to become charity people. You know at the end of the day I’m a songwriter … Having said that we now find ourselves with having to have this structure and having to have to look after what Gods given us. And it’s very very exciting. We’re loving it.”

He also offered up some advice to people about how they can use whatever God has given them to give back:

“[A]t the end of the day you’ve got look in your hand and see what God has given you, and say I want you to use this. And that’s what we did. We looked in our hands and OK we write songs. So let’s just write some songs. And that’s what we’ve done.”

And now it looks like God is taking Martin on a new adventure with Compassionart, proving that as long as you’re faithful to the God of creation, he can use you in ways you never imagined.

If the remaining members of Delirious? would like to get some new people together with them to start a new Christian superband here is a thought. Maybe the remaining members of Delirious could start a new band with Scott Dente for a new guitarist and perhaps Steven Tyler from Aerosmith for a new lead singer. Or maybe I could be the new lead singer. Only problem is I am not a songwriter and I don’t play an instrument.

Hello I am a big fan of Delirious. I heard somethings about martin’s wife from severl people. Here it is this is what i have been hearing
I was at London, UK. Visiting Big Ben. I went to the grocery store and saw Martin’s wife Anna. I saw and heard her talking to some person saying that she is not into martin anymore. that she doesn’t want to be with him. Also that he can’t trust her anymore. I also heard her say that she can’t tell the truth and never like martin’s music. i heard it. If you where to ask her if it is the truth she will not tell the truth. I am sorry Marty. Here is her qote.
” I do not like Martin anymore. He has weird haircuts and i am into another guy.” I know Martin can’t trust me.” Also do not say anything. I want a divorce. I can’t tell the truth and never will.
