Delirious to disband

Delirious.jpgOn the heels of the news in April that Stew Smith was leaving Delirious comes news that lead vocalist Martin Smith is also leaving, and with that, the group will officially disband. Smith is leaving to spend more time with his family and to focus on the ministry he helped found, Compassionart.

In an interview earlier this year for a story I was doing on the Compassionart project (which got a dozen songwriters together to pen songs, with all proceeds going to charity) and the success of the project, Martin Smith told me:

"We didn't set out to become charity people. You know at the end of the day I'm a songwriter ... Having said that we now find ourselves with having to have this structure and having to have to look after what Gods given us. And it's very very exciting. We're loving it."

He also offered up some advice to people about how they can use whatever God has given them to give back:

"[A]t the end of the day you've got look in your hand and see what God has given you, and say I want you to use this. And that's what we did. We looked in our hands and OK we write songs. So let's just write some songs. And that's what we've done."

And now it looks like God is taking Martin on a new adventure with Compassionart, proving that as long as you're faithful to the God of creation, he can use you in ways you never imagined.
