Former Roper and Five Iron Frenzy members' new band Hearts of Palm voted #1 band in Colorado

HeartsofPalmband.jpgDenver's Hearts of Palm was recently voted Colorado's #1 band in the 2008 Denver Post Underground Music Poll. The eight-piece pop orchestra, which includes a soaring trumpet/sax horn section, has been wowing Colorado audiences since 2006.

Despite their short history together, you'll find at some names in the band's roster: Leanor Till, sax player for Five Iron Frenzy, and her husband Stephen Till, former guitarist for Roper. Former Roper bassist Jonathan Till, who played with Hearts of Palm in its early days, now designs the band's CD covers and websites.

Despite the band's religious connection - the members met at East Colfax Avenue Church, a congregation known affectionately, the Denver Post says, as "Scum of the Earth" - the band doesn't define itself as a Christian band. Leanor tells the paper, "We're not a band that has a religious mission. We've been offered Christian festivals, but we don't want to play them now." Instead, you can catch the band playing around Colorado clubs until their October tour, which will take them to NYC for the CMJ Music Marathon.

You can download the band's EP Bridge for free by visiting their MySpace page.
