Irish Christian music festivals growing in popularity

Monday July 21, 2008

OneHundredHours.jpgWe're used to reading about Christian music events in the U.S. and Canada, but I stumbled across this really interesting article from the Independent Irish news website about the growing trend in Christian rock and festivals in Ireland.

The article cites events across the country that are drawing thousands of young people, often at the surprise of event coordinators. One such event, Making A Difference (MAD) Christian rock music festival, was held last month and put together on relatively short notice. More than 1,600 people turned up, despite the lack of media hype. The annual Summer Madness in Belfast draws 5,000 young people every year.

What an encouraging article, to see that the growth of Christian music is more than just a trend in the U.S. Culturally relevant, spiritual music can be used to energize an entire generation of Christians, and show us just how much we have in common with our brothers and sisters around the world.

Even more, I love that they're not importing U.S. bands for their events. Great Christian rock is coming out of all corners of the globe. In fact, check out One Hundred Hours, one of the bands that performed at the MAD festival. I think you'll really like their music.
