Former Stryper frontman Michael Sweet on tour this summer with Boston

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 8:03am Monday August 4, 2008

MichaelSweet.jpgStryper frontman and accomplished solo artist Michael Sweet is touring with the legendary rock band Boston on a headlining tour of North America. Sweet is sharing lead vocals and playing guitar, performing the band’s classic hits like “More than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” “Amanda” and “Don’t Look Back.”
The tour kicked off in Thunder Bay, Ontario on June 6th, and will take the band to 54 cities throughout the USA and Canada before wrapping up in San Juan, Puerto Rico on August 31st. Joining Boston on the tour is equally legendary rock band Styx.
Stryper put the finishing touches on a brand new studio record “Murder By Pride” scheduled for release in 2009. Ironically, the album includes a cover of Boston’s “Peace of Mind” and features Boston guitarist Tom Scholz on the recording. The band had chosen to record the cover of Boston’s song for the album before Sweet was even asked to join the band. The song is now available on iTunes and other digital stores.

I must politely point out that the headline has a typo. It’s Stryper, not Styper.
And in the third paragraph, it’s scheduled, not xcheduled.
Thank, and rock on!

LOL, Warren – THANK YOU!!! Can I just tell you that I have a terrible time proofing my own stuff, and I’ve been so overwhelmed the past few days that I totally missed those.

Hello everyone,
Before I became a Christian,I was a great fan of the Band Boston and Stryper. I grew up with their music. But when I got saved, I have to make a decision to choose what kind of music to listen. But to my dismayed, the Band (i.e. Stryper) whom I love, happens that its frontman Michael Sweet went and join the Band Boston. My question to all Christian friends, are we to feel great or happy that Michael is one of the main vocalist of the Band Boston. Just think of the harm that this person have cause. So many young and new born again youths look up to this man and the Band Stryper. Now this same person in the other way is leading again people who are being pull from the miry clay again to the pit. In so many blog I read that Michael Sweet still love the Lord Jesus Christ as usual and still continues to witness for Him. My friends where do we draw the line here. What do belial have to do with God. What do darkness have to do with the light. It seems that we have a very serious situation here with Michael. Brother, I love you, I love your music, and I will always listen to all Stryper songs, but I’m sorry to say, that your association with a secular band is not what God have in mind for you to bring Glory to His name.
MICHAEL SWEET

Man I really understand your point but, remember that if you are a true christian no matter if Boston is secular or not,Michael is enjoying this experience with such a great band. We are not talking of Motley, Iron, Ozzy, etc. Boston and their lyrics doesnt harm anybody. Its just my point of view.

Ok Ok we are way over thinking this. I have known God since I was 4 years old. Called to preach at 8 years old. Partied like an animal from 17 to 30 yrs old. Divorced, broke and everything else. All the music, alcohol, women etc. Since all of that God has cleaned me up and set me on solid ground! Now I hear that Boston is going to be within 2 hours of me a few years ago while Brad was still alive.
My religion would not let me go. FFWD to 2008. Boston again is going to be 2 hours from me. What was that? Michael Sweet the new front man? I have to go! Let me tell you about tht concert. Nothing short of awesome. I have loved Boston for nearly 30 years. God and my son and I sat in the third row and we enjoyed listening to the God given talent on stage.
Nothing disrespectful or degrading was said or played. Don’t condemn Michaels choice. How do you know that God didn’t fulfill a life long dream for him while building a relationship with the band that will lead them to Jesus?
One post says what do light and darkness have to do with each other. The answer is EVERYTHING! If no one is there to turn on a light, all you have is darkness. We don’t command darkness to leave a room, we simply turn on a light and darkness is GONE. Jesus says we are IN this DARK world. Run on Michael! Shine your light and sing those songs! I loved hearing you cover Brad Delp, one of the best ever. Brad needed some light in his life.

Todd, I totally agree. I’m glad you went and enjoyed yourself and didn’t let anyone guilt you out of it.
And I’m glad to hear that despite your detour, you and God are on speaking terms again. :)
All the best!
