Are these videos a joke or just cheesy Christian music history?

Friday September 12, 2008

My friend Kevin Sparkman sent me this video and I cracked up. I think it's a joke ... I hope it is, anyway ... it's from a "band" called Sonseed and is called "Jesus Is My Friend":

And here's another video that's in the same vein that I found online, from The Way International, called "The Renewed Mind is the Key:"

[9/25/08 update: The Renewed Mind Is The Key was pulled from youtube.com due to copyright issues, but you can still see the video at The Way's website:
http://www.theway.org/Current/Mar07/Mar07.htm]

Are these for real? I mean, the outfits, hairstyles and studio sets look so authentic, but I can't imagine there was a time in Christian music when people actually thought this was helpful to the gospel. Gotta to be a joke. Right?

WRONG!!

Not only is the second video, The Renewed Mind Is The Key, a real video it's not even history, in the sense that it's from the early Christian music of the 70s! The performance is from The Way International's March 2007 teaching service.

For real! In fact, there are a lot more ... um, interesting ... video clips on their website.

Either way, I say they both could give God's Pottery a run for their money.

"Jesus Is My Friend" is - I think - for reals!

Sad.

Yeah, but with God's Pottery, we were in on the joke. This is just a joke. How these people can expect their message to be taken seriously is beyond me!

Jesus christ that's terrible. Go atheism.

FYI the second one was pulled from youtube due to copyright complaints, and can be seen here

The new mind is the key, jesus is my friend.

Doug, thanks for the catch on that. I'll go in and note it in the post.
