With the presidential election just over a month away (or as I write this, 37 days, 8 hours, 57 minutes and counting, according to the Redeem the Vote election countdown) few artists are taking political sides. But the guys in Bread of Stone have teamed up with Redeem the Vote to reach out to young evangelical Christians aged 18 to 35 about the importance of voting. It’s a message that’s especially powerful, because founding members, brother Ben and Bill Kristijanto, grew up in Indonesia. Now in the States, they have a unique perspective on American freedom, and understand the importance of taking part in the democratic process.Despite the fact that the band is indie, they’re making quite a splash on the Christian music scene, not only with a solid faith message but great modern rock music. The were part of Petra’s Farewell Tour, and have toured with Phil Joel, Foolish Things and DecembeRadio.Even better, they’re actively involved in several ongoing mission projects, from building homes in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina to working with Imanuel Ministries to distribute, free of charge, 85,000 copies of their two Christian albums in the predominantly Muslim country of Indonesia.Bread of Stone heads out in October on the True Love Revolution Tour, with Nate Huss and Me In Motion.
