Chubby Girl Records launched with plus-size consumers in mind

Friday September 12, 2008

SherrieKeysChubbyGirlRecords.jpgGospel songtress Sherrie Keys has launched Chubby Girl Records, with the goal of not only featuring plus-size Gospel artists but "a unique opportunity to positively reach out to plus-size consumers" with a new clothing line.

Keys believes that plus-size women deserve "fashion equality" and that the demographic has strong growth potential in an otherwise stagnant retail market. "We won't need couture robes when we get to heaven," Keys says on her site, "but a few designer garments down here would be divine."

The Chubby Girl website cites a Purdue University study that says 65% of churchgoers are in the overweight or obese category. I suppose there's something to be said for a music label that focuses on artists who may be a little more ... well, like the rest of America.

Chubby Girl Records is also holding a contest to recognize ten "unique, fashion-forward women who are serving their family, church and community faithfully and with finesse."

To learn more about Chubby Girl Records and nominate a woman for the "Hats Off To You!" contest, visit the label's website.

You can search around the site by using the search box, which is on the right in the "Search This Blog" box, just about the "Subscribe" box. Type in a word or artist name and you should get all the posts related to it.

Hope that helps!

I can't wait to see the clothing line. Just because we are plus-sized dosen't mean that we don't want fashion! Again................can't wait!

I got an email from Gospel News wire about Chubby Girl Records and what they are about. That fact that they focus on the spiritual talents or fruit of the spirit instead of image is a real powerful blessing to see, because that is what the focus is suppose to be all about, not the image focus you see out here.

The focus is so contaminated. As a singer myself looking for opportunity. I really like seeing that they are not into the size factor. In fact some of the best singers with the most soul I heard was plus sized. If you can sing, I feel that you should do what God tells you to do without worry what others think.

god already said to do this anyway. I pray that Gos watches over the company and the women that provide the power of God in this form. In this world, we need to see a new direction especially in the youth today in that position.

They need the opportunity to spread out without the stereo types that taught the spirit of young people today. God is first.
