Hillsong to re-edit new DVD, Intergity does the same in US but should they edit the CD?
Hillsong has made the decision to re-edit their latest DVD to remove the video clips of Michael Guglielmucci talking about his battle with cancer, which makes sense, considering he's been faking illness for two years. They are also considering if...
Hi there
I am a Christian in South Africa. I belong to the Life Church which is part of the Assmblies of God.
I really do not think the song should be pulled from the album. As a musician I have found the song a blessig. It truely is. I believe that song was born for a reason. God works in mysterious ways, ways we will never understand.
Maybe this song is the best thing to come out of the whole story.
Heeler is so true. Because God is our heeler and walks with through fire (Hard times)
I vote that it should stay.
I don't think the song will be removed from the CD as despite the circumstances that the song came about - there is still truth in it.
We dont sing the songs thinking on who wrote it and where it came from, but sing it as our own personal worship to God. With the lives that have been transformed and touched because of the song, who can say that's not real and there's no power in it?
The song shouldn't be pulled. It's anointed regardless of the story behind it.
Isn't it sad that Mike felt he had no one he could trust to share his pain. Jesus hung out with the least of these and I am thankful for the song Healer. When I hear it, I think of a man in desperate sin singing a desperate song for deliverance.
Let this be a lesson to the churches, that we can come with out deepest sin and sorrows to the cross to be forgiven and not ashamed.
I have much compassion for him and believe this was the cry of his heart to be set free. Too bad he didn't trust anyone to "share his burdens with." He probably knew he would be made an example of :(
I see this song as an annointed and powerful message! If we pull the song, we're really just saying that we dont think its true.
We already know the persecution coming from Non-Christians because yet another leader has fallen into sin, so what will this say? We agree and dont think that the song has meaning?! Does this mean that everytime a worship leader or songwriter falls, we should delete all of their songs? I understand that this is an extreme situation, but love and forgiveness to this still man of God needs to be the foundation.
The meaning and truth through this song is a vital part of our worship and crying out to God. One mans decision and mistake shouldn't change that! We need to persevere through the criticism, pain and confusion so that God may be glorified through it all!
Prayers for you all....
I have to agree that I think the song should stay on the CD. I see the point of removing the video clip - yeesh, that HAD to go. But the song ... every song has a story behind it, and time will give perspective. Who knows years from now if that song and the story might not offer hope - and a chance to confess - to someone else? In the short term, it may be a problem, but in the long run it may be OK. Like I said in my post last Monday, God may have allowed the deception to go on as long as it did soley for a purpose we can't understand.

Healer is still a song about our God who heals, and written by a man who needed healing, whether that healing was for cancer or another illness, does it matter?

Pull it.
How many other "beautiful" songs are out there? Is one less going to hurt anyone?
The only thing that it will serve is to remind everyone that Mike G is a deceptive individual. And I'm not saying its removal is to sweep things under the carpet, but lets look at integrity shall we, and I don't mean the company.
What is right? To allow a person to continue to profit from their lies? Because if it stays, Mike G will still be entitled to the royalties.
All profits from the song healer is going to charity... I was there when the album was recorded.. yes, Mike Gugg stuffed up. The song Healer is still amazing. Leave it on the cd...
I agree the videoclip should be removed. The song WILL endure and will always be an inspiration to me and others who need healing. Its about Jesus not Mike Gugliemucci
I am more surprised that Hillsong didn't stop sales of the dvd earlier. It's been what 3 weeks since the news came out about Guglielmucci and they've continued to let the cd and dvd be sold in their church and in retailers all around. I would've thought they'd halt all sales of the dvd once the news came out. Then they could've made the decision to issue an edited version of the dvd.
To me, a key issue is one of focus. Worship is totally focussing on God and at the moment, to sing Mike G's songs, would have people focussing on what he did rather than on the God we serve. I would pull the songs for the time being until he is restored.
@Mike, I did hear within a couple of days of the news breaking publicly that Hillsong had already begun the process of having the DVD's pulled from Koorong (which is a big Christian retailer here in Australia). So the timing isn't so much an issue, I guess if its taken 3 weeks its because of other factors slowing down the lines of communication.
Blessings...No one can determine the time it takes to be restored. Hate the sin, love the sinner in spite of what it may "feel" like to you. He made a mistake, and how many others of us have, and regretted it? It doesn't change the fact that God still uses us, as he did Mike Guglielmucci. The song itself was written under extreme hardship because he truly needed healing and it was a cry out to God, believing in God's timing, he can be healed. And it only encourages me more to know that God will continue to be glorified in spite of our mistakes.
PL, well said. I think that's why in the short run the song will be a problem but long term may be able to use the story.
Great point.

when I first heard the song "Healer" I loved it. I was confused when I was told it was written by a man with cancer - to me it spoke of a deeper form of healing. The healing of addictions, emotional rather than physical pain. Please listen again and think of the millions of people out here who are so grateful to the One who calms our raging seas, Who is more than enough. Jesus is ALL we need.
I am grateful to Michael for being honest enough to admit his addiction and hopefully open the way for the rest of us to speak up too.
While it hurts to see the attacks on Michael and makes it even scarier in some ways to admit to problems, I have to believe that in future pastors and others will make the way more open for leaders and others to come forward and admit their addictions and get help to recover before it is too late.
Get rid of the song, this millionaire pastor shouldn't benefit from his lie and neither should the churches
There are many preachers out there who would be doing the same thing as Michael G did but just to lesser extents. There would be many Ministers/Pastors who would be instructing their congregation in the name of God when it isn't God at all. I think that most preachers would have some form of deception in their lives, the only differance with them and him is that he got caught or couldn't live with the deception that he was feeding others. Many others can live with it which is a bigger problem.
SOmeone EXPLAIN ME PLEASEE
Im from Mexico and I love hillsong the songS touch me everytime I listen them, specially healer.
1.- HILLSONG knew that Michael Guglielmucci was lying when they recorded the cd THIS IS OUR GOD?
2.- Michael Guglielmucci was a pastor of hillsong church?
3.- If hillsong didnt know the true what did they say when the true came out?
PLEASE ANSWER ME THOSE QUESTIONS IM SHOCKED
I KNOW GOD FORGIVES HIM JUST I WANT TO KNOW THOSE QUESTIONS PLEASE
Jorge, no, Michael Guglielmucci was not a pastor at Hillsong. From what I understand, he's a musician who used to be with Planetshakers and has now been doing some writing and performing with Hillsong.
No, they didn't know he was lying. He confessed very shortly after the DVD/CD were released, actually. They were as shocked as everyone else. I have a post going up tomorrow with a link to Pastor Brian Houston's blog - that might give you some more answers. Here's the link to his blog post

I know they have stopped distribution of the DVD and are re-editing the video to remove Michael Guglielmucci's section. I've heard they may or may not remove the song "Healer" from the album.
Hope that helps!

its confusing because the song is good but the person who was singing faked the song and was lying,i think as the word of God says we shouldnt put ourself a stumbling block it better be removed because many pple will think hillsong agreed with his lies, that is according to me
two thoughts, neither to uplift or condemn...
The song is definitely based in scripture; and Mike G definitely needed Gods healing... just not from what he told the world he needed healing.
it could well still be his cry for healing...
but I'm still undecided!
Let us all move on and continue our own journey with our Beautiful Lord. Leave Micheal G in Gods loving hands and love and pray for one another. I saw the video clip of Mike G singing the Healer song with an interview on the big screen at Hillsong Conference. I can honestly say that my feelings, and intuition revealed that Mike G singing that song was not right. I definately had a negative vibe that I refused to buy the new album. I have enjoyed Gods presence at Hillsong Conference for 7yrs and I always made sure to buy the new album. For an unknown reason I refused to buy it this year. Now God has revealed the truth. Even though I had a genuine, clean heart, people always rejected me in some shape or form. But My Lord is my only true friend because he picked me up, rescued me, transformed and restored me even when man condemned, rejected and treated me worst than a dog. I believe God will bless Mike G and His beautiful family, and keep them safe and well forever. Lets be a doer of The Word. I pray in Jesus Precious Name Amen.
I don't think that Healer should be taken off the new album. I believe that he was inspired by God to write that song and even though the truth has come out now that he never had cancer, i think more than ever Mike G. needs to know that God is his healer. He is a great sinner like all of us, that are in need of a great Savior. That song has encouraged me to have more faith and to go deeper with the Lord becuase God is our healer, and he bought our healing on the cross. I realize he messed up big time, but God can use anyone and any circumstance for his good. That song is a promise from God to anyone who will take hold of it, don't let the enemy take that away from you.
God can still use a song despite what a person was doing while it was being written, sung, taped, whatever!!! The song "Healer" is a very powerful and anointed song and I will continue to view it that way. I believe that this man was truly seeking "healing" from his sin but he (like many of us) found a way to disguise that sin because he was ashamed and embarrassed!!! I stand on the fact that God is our healer....the healer of diseases, porn, lust, adultery, murder, anger, hatred, and the list can go on and on. This man's sin was no greater then the sins we all commit everyday. God is still God and He is on the throne. Who are we to judge!! That is God's job and we are to live our lives after the Word that HE has given us to guide us. I will keep my copy of this CD and I am giving a copy to someone for Christmas who has the same views as me.
Bt, Hillsong actually did not re-edit the CD, but they did re-edit the DVD to take out the part of the documentary where Michael Guglielmucci was talking about getting diagnosed with cancer and having his treatments.

It's unfortunate that Mike G was faking the illness, but that doesn't take away from the truth of the song itself. God often uses broken vessels to display His glory.
Those that want to condemn Mike or pull all his music out should think again. If we used their standard, we'd have to rip out half of the book of Psalms! David was a leader who sinned greatly...but that doesn't take away from the truth of the Psalms he wrote. The important part is that David repented, and began to receive the Lord's forgiveness and healing. The same, we pray, is true of Mike G.
Let's stop being self righteous... Let's not judge Mike G. for what he had done... He is undergoing the painful process of healing right now, not from cancer but form "cancer that destroys our mind" that's addiction from pornography. In fact, i am touched by his story, his story might be a great testimony when all things are fixed by God,,, God is working in Mike's life, and i'll say it again, his story will be a great testimony in God's time...
I still listen to "Healer" and sing it. Just a few thoughts for those who would toss it in the bin:
If you want to erase "healer" from the CD and banish it from your worship services, will you do the same with the Psalms of David (a murderer/adulterer)? Likewise, the Proverbs and the Song of Solomon (a ladies' man if there ever was one, and an idolater too)?
Then, too, you could scrap the doctrine of justification by faith, rediscovered by Martin Luther, an antisemite, and by John Calvin, who had his opponent Servitus burned at stake.
The point is simply this : we are all sinners. And if you want to receive spiritual inspiration from somebody who isn't one, you'll have to look for it on another planet, I'm afraid.
Mike has repented. He is undertaking a painful journey of recovery and needs our love and prayers, and our forgiveness too.
David.
i think that the song healer is beautiful. and i also think that michael guglielmucci should not be held blamed and he shouldnt be having to deal with all the persecution.
the song healer is about faith, about believing that God will come through for us. in that way michael guglielmucci had stepped out in faith to admit that he had been lying. he had stepped out in faith to confess his sins to the world!
the song healer should be kept in the cd as it assures people that God can heal all your sins, and that even if you're facing a problem in your life, God will see you through til the end.
