Ask any band even remotely associated with Christianity and they'll tell you that they get asked all the time if they're a "Christian band." Some say no, some say yes, some say they're Christians in a band. It's all spin, right?
Well, Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman recently talked to the St. Petersburg Times. When asked, "You probably get asked this a lot, but are you a Christian band?" he responds:
"I'm a believer. I think it's a tricky one whenever you mix faith with commerce, because the dollar bill is never going to be Christian, and I never want to use my faith to sell records. But at the same time, we've always been very upfront about our beliefs."
Back when this blog first started, I had picked Foreman's solo EP Summer as a pick of the week, and did a post on the lyrics to the song "Instead of a Show."
I think Foreman's comments to the Times as well as that post about "Instead Of A Show" are relevent to our recent discussions about commerce, hypocrisy and faith, and I wanted to share both.
