WinterBand takes on the Trinity with new YouTube video

Monday September 29, 2008

Categories: Christian rock music

My friend Dave Weiss, supplier of all ideas unusual, sent me this video today from a Christian rock band called WinterBand. Their YouTube profile says, "We hope our music is a blessing to you. We play original Christian Bible based songs, original contemporary Christian music. Christian rock music."

It's kind of ... ZZTop with choir robes.

Music is cool, and they look like lots of fun - until you listen to the lyrics. The latest video, God Squad, talks about the "six eyed" God and "six legged" God that we worship. Wait ... it's an anti-Trinity song!

I checked out another video, Shame Shame Shame, which is basically about women speaking in church, which they say the Bible says is a shame:

Huh.

So what do you think? Christian rock? Or just fun?

These guys seem completely wrong, but probably harmless outside of whatever loosely "Christian" subculture they exist in.

I have often wondered how the more conservative (here meaning literalistic) churches justify finding a way for women to take leadership roles, by avoiding using the word "pastor".

The wife of one of the Calvary Chapel pastors has a radio show, as does Francis Swaggart. Other theologically conservative (and literalistic) women lead churches. I've never quite got that contradiction.

It reminds me of the battle over the ERA, when Phyllis Schlaffly (sp?), a lawyer, was going around the country telling women to stay home.

I think this is pretty funny. . . I'm torn as to whether or not they are serious. . . I'm leaning towards them being Christian schtick. . . I hope I'm right. . . otherwise, it's Christian creepy. . . and sounds like the 1611 movement of a few years ago that made anyone who read anything other than the KJV is not really reading a Bible. . . I think God has a sense of humor. . . I hope that's where these guys are coming from. . . I like the beards
