Fox News reports that the mother and brother of Oscar winning actress and singer Jennifer Hudson were found shot to death yesterday. Her 7-year-old nephew is currently missing. Police have described the shootings as domestic violence.
Hudson, a professed Christian, is very close to her family and recently told AP News:
“My faith in God and my family, they’re very realistic and very normal, they’re not into the whole limelight kind of thing, so when I go home to Chicago that’s just another place that’s home,” she said. “I stand in line with everybody else, or, when I go home to my mom I’m just Jennifer, (so she says), ‘You get up and you take care of your own stuff.’ And I love that; I don’t like when people tell you everything you want to hear, I want to hear the truth, you know what I mean.”
In September, Hudson announced her engagement to David “Punk” Otunga, known for his role on the reality show I Love New York 2.
Hudson’s career took off after she was voted off “American Idol,” going on to win an Academy Award for her role in the 2007 film, “Dreamgirls.” She’s currently starring in the movie, “The Secret Life of Bees,” and recently released her self-titled debut album. The single “Spotlight” from the album is currently No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts. She is on the over of the October issue of Precious Times Christian women’s magazine.
Keep Jennifer and her family in your prayers.

Hello there!
This is is such a sad story…I feel so deeply for what Jennifer and the other family members must be going through.
I hope it is a wake up call for black people to stop minimizing mental illness among their relatives… saying “he’s tripping” and “she’s tripping” and not taking mental illness SERIOUSLY because a mentally ill person who does not get treatment can be a viable threat to everyone’s well-being.
Our people will cry and wail at the funerals when these tragedies happen but WHO in the family ever called the behavior what it was: MENTAL ILLNESS.
Let us do more than lament their loss. Let us be compelled to become more self-examining!
Let’s allow this tragedy to open the conversation on the denial that permeates in black communities and black families about refusing to acknowledge and call OUT mental and emotional illness in our own family units.
I will pray for the comfort and healing of the family.
Let this be a lesson for all.
Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!

Amen Lisa. Wake up Black People.!!!!! Mental illness should be treated as seriously as any other medical illness. If you were told you had heart disease you would seek medical help, and take the prescribed treatment, please do the same with Mental Illness. Not only is the Black community in denial of this disease but our Nation as a whole doesn’t truely see the true ramification of this illness.
Peace be with the Hudson family as they deal with this current tragedy.

FIRST,IF THIS GUY DID THIS. GROWING UP, MY PARENTS TOOK IN MANY PEOPLE GOING THROUGH PERSONAL PROBLEMS. I BELIEVE ITS THE CHRISTAIN THING TO DO. I HAVE AND MY CHILDREN HAVE TOO. IT DOESNT TAKE LONG TO SEE WHERE ITS GOING, AND IF ITS A GOOD THING OR NOT. I DONT WANT TO HELP SOMEONE WHOS NOT TRYING TO HELP THEM SELVES. AND IF THEIR NOT DOING RIGHT THEN I CANT RIGHTLY HELP THEM. I CANT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS WOULD HAPPEN, AND I CANT SEE HOW MISS HUDSON WILL GET HER ARMS AROUND THIS. I PRAY GOD KEEPS HIS ARMS AROUND HER, AND IS A CONSTANT PRESENCE FOR HER.

This is an unfortunate tragedy that has occurred. Only God has the “real answers” however, I just pray that the Holy Spirit provides the comfort and peace that this family needs. He can and He will! I believe that anytime a loved one makes the transition it is difficult but we must know that the Father will give us the strength that we need to make it through. I am just happy that Jennifer has a Christian foundation because with Him all things are possible…without Him…now that’s another story. I don’t know the reasons behind this tragedy but we too have to pray for those involved and that little boy that is still missing. We should pray that he is safely returned to his family.

Barb and Lisa – mental illness is a human problem, not a problem of just the black community. That takes away from the reality that, if in fact mental illness has anything to do with this, that it’s an issue that affects everyone, regardless of race, economic status, gender, religion, etc. I hope we can pray for all those involved in the situation, and work towards reducing the stigma of mental illness for all people.
Thanks!

Please let us all pray for the Hudson family. This is truly a sad time not only for Jennifer and her sister,(her little boy was found yesterday), but for everyone who has ever lost a family member to sudden death. May God grant her and her family peace of mind, and forgiveness for whom ever did this, which we know that only satan kills, steals and destroys lives before their time.

I FEEL A SADNESS IN MY HEART FOR JENNIFER HUDSON AND HER FAMILY. THIS IS A TRAGEDY. LIFE HAS IT’S UPS AND DOWN AND THINGS HAPPEN IN LIFE THAT WE TRULY DON’T UNDERSTAND. RELEASING OUR PROBLEMS AND OUR HURTS AND PAINS TO GOD IS THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP SANITY. WE MUST BE ALERT AS POSSIBLE TO PEOPLE IN GENERAL BY TRYING TO NOT LET OUR GUARD DOWN AND TO NOT BE SO TRUSTING TO EVERYONE THAT WE COME ACROSS IN LIFE. BELIEVE ME THEIR ARE SOME REAL SICK, MENTALLY, EMOTIONALLY CHALLENGED PEOPLE THAT WILL ACT ON 1 THING THAT MIGHT BE A TRIGGER TO HURT INNOCENT PEOPLE. JENNIFER MY PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU. GOD WILL COMFORT YOU THROUGH THIS TRAGEDY. YOUR MUSIC IS AN UPLIFT TO THE WORLD AND YOU ARE TRULY A BLESSING.

Jennifer, this is a very serious testing period of your faith. My heart goes out to you and to your sister and all the others. You have done so much to make a shining star and positive role model of yourself and some of your success is due to the fact that you are channeling God. Do not ever lose sight of it, when the days are brightest with success or darkest with unceasing weeping. You will never be alone. . .In deepest sympathy, Carolyn Gregory, Jamaica Plain, MA
