Hopefully, you caught the webisodes of the show "Jesus People" that I posted last week. The web series satires a Christian dance pop group, from their beginnings to success, complete with the Christianese and secret lives of believers.
The comedic formula is often described as "truth + pain or exaggeration = funny," and in this case the folks at "Jesus People" nailed it.
Now the show's creators Dan Ewald and Rajeev Sigamoney are set to do a full length film, which is expected to make the festival circuit early next year.
Marc Hustvedt at Tubefilter.com did a great story on the creators and the show. It should come as no surprise that the filmmakers have a background in the Christian subculture. Hustvedt says Ewals grew up Baptist in a tight-knit religious family and Sigamoney was raised Seventh-day Adventist in an Indian-American community. Ewald also worked as a journalist in Christian publishing, penning hundreds of articles on Christian rock bands. No doubt that inside info helped shaped the series band, Cross My Heart. The band has a hit in the film, which, if I know my Christian subculture, will give any current CCM/pop act a run for it's money.
Here's the trailer for the TV show:
You can see episodes 1 & 2 here on the Gospel Soundcheck blog and you can head over to the Jesus People site for the rest of the show.
