Win an XBOX 360 DiNG’d from (Christian rockers) Norma Jean

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 12:18pm Saturday November 1, 2008

NormaJean.jpgRockers Norma Jean are currently on a headlining U.S. tour with guests Haste The Day, The Showdown, Mychildren Mybride, and Oh Sleeper to promote their latest release, The Anti-Mother. According to lead singer Cory Brandan, the album’s title “is a character we created which represents anything that is deceptive, and yet possesses an outwardly beautiful nature.” The Anti Mother is the follow up to the band’s 2006 critically lauded Redeemer.
The band has teamed up with DiNG to give away an XBOX 360, $100 DiNG Gift Card, $100 Hot Topic Gift Card, and CDs from every band on the tour. In addition, one lucky winner will get to catch the whole show right from up on stage.

Norma Jean fits into that category of rockers who are Christians, but don’t apply the “Christian band” label to themselves (even though for the purposes of this blog, they’re a Christian rock band). Norma Jean bassist recently Jake Schultz told MLive.com:

“A band is a band whether they’re Christian or Buddhist or whatever. We know that we have labels like ‘Christian’ put upon us [but] it doesn’t bother us. We are all Christians first and foremost. Secondly, we’re in a band. We play music. That’s what we do. We don’t think there’s Christian music or non-Christian music. There’s just music.”

I like that quote. If it’s good music, people will listen. If it sucks, it doesn’t matter if there’s a Jesus fish on the CD cover or not. And just because it has a Jesus fish on it, doesn’t mean the artist singing is necessarily living a Christian life. I’m fine with Christians making music for entertainment, not necessarily to evangelize, and living a life that’s pleasing to Christ in all they do.
