Texas' KWTX news reported this week that instead of exchanging gifts this Christmas, Casting Crowns' Mark Hall and his family sent blankets to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation as a way to teach his children that Christmas is more about giving than receiving.
Last year, instead of giving gifts, our family gave presents from the Samaritan's Purse gift cataloge. My sister and her husband had a goat given in their name to a family in a developing country, for example. We gave all the nieces and nephews broods of chicks in their names. This year, I gave money to the Sears Heroes at Home fund in no one's name and feel guilty for not doing more.
So what did you get - and give - for Christmas this year? Did your family do something different? Did you give to charity? Did you spend more? Get less? What was the best part of your Christmas?

I donated to "The Gabon Project" at my church, to help those in Gabon Africa. I also donated to Sole 2 Soul, which is an online shoe ministry, and my parents donated a chicken for me for Heifer International, a non-profit org. that helps to end hunger and malnutrition. It felt great to give back to others less fortunate. I hope to do more of this throught the year.
