Newsboys guitarist Jody Davis returns; Paul Colman will pursue solo career

Tuesday January 6, 2009

newsboys.jpgThe newsboys announced this week that former guitarist Jody Davis is returhing to the band after a five-year hiatus. Davis will replace Paul Colman, who has played with the band for the last three years.

Davis, who was a member of the band from 1993-2003, contributed to many of newsboys' greatest hits like "Shine," "Entertaining Angels," and "It is You." In 2003, he took time off to care for his daughter, Bethany, who has cerebral palsy. In a press release, Davis says, "I am thrilled to be returning to the band and back with my bandmates, who are some of my best friends. This is a big change in my life, and I'm looking forward to the tour and new record with excitement."

Colman will continue to purse his solo career. In the press release, he says, "My three years with newsboys were among the best of my life. I learned an immeasurable amount about music, ministry, and life, and am happy to say I left with all our friendships wonderfully intact. I always was and always will be one of newsboys' biggest fans. I am very excited about the return of Jody Davis!"

The newsboys are getting ready for the May release of their new project, In The Hands Of God. The title track from the album will be released to radio January 16, and the band will also embark on a 30-city "Join the Tribe" tour with special guests DecembeRadio, Vota, and Bread of Stone in February.

Me siento feliz de poder leer esta tan agradable noticia yo he perdido dos hijos y me identifico mucho con Jody no solo por eso sino porque como el tambien toco guitarra con una banda y su fe y su carisma me anima para seguir con mi ministerio

Glenn...
The reason for taking small unknown acts is to help them break into the industry / ministry.
It's called "Giving Back"
That was how Newsboys got their start, and they remember who they really are.

Mark 42 - don't forget, though, that when a band goes on the road with a major act they pay for it. Pay for play. Sometimes it can be like $1,000 a show. For a small band, it can mean a lot of exposure, but it costs them. One of those things that most music fans don't know about the Christian music industry.

Yes, major acts like the Newsboys definitely take artists under their wings - Todd Agnew is a great example of that. He not only takes them on the road, he mentors them like a pastor/teacher/discipler.
