Listening to my local contemporary Christian station, these don't surprise me.

Why can't 'listener supported' stations get away with playing a more diverse playlist? Our station devotes 3 hrs on Saturday night to rock and R&B and the rest is the same...tired...stuff. If these stations aren't slaves to the almighty advertising dollar, why can't they have more diversity? They just have the listeners to answer to, and we all know they don't listen to us!!

There ought to be more stations that mix in all of the genres. Satellite radio offers a nice way to dip your toe into most everything, but more often than not, Christian rock gets the biggest slight. And that's not evening mentioning the really hard rock stuff from labels like Tooth & Nail.

Christian radio directs its programming based on a ficticious demographic, "Becky." You can read more about it in the posts linked below, but basically it's all aimed at the 30-something soccer mom.

Christian radio, like any radio, directs programming where the $ is, and while it's listener supported vs ad revenue supported, they still need to please the listener who is willng to open their pocket.

Christian radio is now the second most popular music radio format, so you're not going to see any changes soon. Here are a couple more posts that you might find interesting:
