American Idol Group 2 – Results Show LIVE

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 8:44am Thursday February 26, 2009

NormanGentleLive.jpgSo last night the second group performed on American Idol, and all I can say is they pretty much stunk up the joint. You can read my live blog from the show last night and get the play by play. The only honestly entertaining part of the night was Nick Mitchell – aka Norman Gentle. LOVE HIM.
Who do I predict is going through? Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, and I think the third spot goes to Norman. Although it would not surprise me if Megan Corkery was close to the top, despite her lame performance. Snore. But she has a lot of fans.
But let’s find out who went through together!

And here we go! Nick is Nick right now. Will he morph into Norman for a group performance? Let’s hope so! But first we need another video montage of the contestants’ journey from audition to Hollywood to the top 36. It’s amazing, looking back, how good some of these people were and how bad they sounded last night.
This week’s group is “Closer”. They sound good. Bummer, Nick is Nick (even when he’s trying to be normal Nick, Norman is trying to get out). Jeanine is once again wearing short shorts, which is probably overcompensation without any hope of reward. That group song was actually quite good!
Oh, tricky tricky. Idol has hidden an unseen audition amidst the commercials. Well, I have to go to the bathroom so let’s hope it’s not till the end. Oh, there it is! Errr … who cares. But I do love those E-trade commercials.
We’re back with a recap of last night’s performances. You know, I really like Kris Allen, and while I don’t think he got the votes to go through I would be thrilled to be wrong. Same with Jasmine Murray and Jesse Langseth. But let’s be honest: These recaps taje the few seconds where the contestants shined, so they sound a lot better than they really did. Which is why some of these singers sounded amazing during Hollywood week and fell flat live.
So who’s up first? After some chatter …
Allison is up first. Hmm. That could be good or bad. Oh, Idol games, I get it. Allison, stand aside, and Jesse joins Ryan and then stands next to Allison. Matt’s up and stands next to the girls. Ryan asks Randy who will make it through, and Randy says he hopes it’s Allison. And he’s right, just like I called it. We get to hear her sing again, and she reminds us why she deserved that spot. She’s incredible and says she’s “so friggin happy right now.”
Megan and Kris – Ryan recaps and they stand to one side. Then Ryan calls Jeanine and Matt, recaps and they all stand together. One is going through – is it Kris or Megan? I really hope it’s Kris. It’s not Jeanine – no surprise – and it’s not Matt – no surprise.
Ryan asks Kara for advice, Simon says she’s rambling, and there’s clearly, clearly tension at the judges table. The internet is abuzz with news that Paula has said she didn’t think they needed a fourth judge and Kara responding, and maybe the seams are starting to show on this little experiment.
America voted, and it’s … KRIS!! Yeah!! I’M SO HAPPY! He’s clearly surprised, let’s see if he can sing after that shock. He even sounds better tonight; maybe it’s the lack of pressure. He even looks more comfortable on stage.
Befofre we see the last chair filled, we get a rerun of an Idol retrospective, with highlights and clips from the years. Gee, remember when Ryan had that hip hair and didn’t look like a soccer dad? Wow, Clay Aiken, Carrie underwood, the crying girl, Sanjaya, William Hung … the whole gang’s there.
Tonight’s guest is Brooke White, from last season. How nice to see her! Her advice to the contestants? “Stay true to yourself and don’t google your name.” She’s singing her first single, “Hold Up My Heart.” I always liked her but this song isn’t especially ground breaking. Just another catchy pop radio single.
We’re down to the last five, Mishovanna, Nick, Adam, Jasmine, Kai. He sends Misvovanna, Jasmine and Kai home, leaving Nick and Adam. Oh, please, please be Nick! And it’s …. Adam. Sigh. We’ll see Nick again in at the Wild Card, I’m sure. Simon smirked a bit when he mentioned that we’ll even see a few from tonight.
So there you go – Allison, Adam and Kris go through. Did you make the right predictions?
