American Idol Round One: Tell Me Your Predictions

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 10:38am Friday February 13, 2009

DannyGokeyIdol.jpg Tuesday night, American Idol kicks off the first of four weeks of elimination rounds to narrow the field to the top 12 contestants, and I want to know who you think will make it to the top 12.
The 12 competing on Tuesday will be:

The Girls:
Casey Carlson
Tatiana Del Toro
Jackie Tohn
Anne Marie Boscovich
Alexis Grace
Stevie Wright
The Guys:
Brent Keith
Matt Breitzke
Danny Gokey (pictured)
Ricky Braddy
Anoop Desai
Stephen Fowler
(Quick note – at the end of the judge’s mansion show Wednesday, Michael Sarver was listed as competing Tuesday, but they’ve since changed that to Matt Breitzke. Any thoughts on why? Hmm …)
It works like this: they perform on Tuesday and then the viewers vote. On Wednesday, the top guy and the top girl, along with whatever contestant got the second highest number of votes, make the final 12. There are two more rounds just like that, and then a Wild Card round where the judges pick three of their favorites. (I wonder how that works this year, with four judges? Used to be Paula, Randy and Simon each got to pick one contestant.)
So if you had to vote today, which guy and which girl would you send through? It’s a tough one, because they put some great singers in this round. But I’m not going to lie. I’m definitely rooting for Danny Gokey. The guy can sing and he has such a positive spirit. Love him.
My predictions:
Guy: Danny Gokey
Girl: Alexis Grace (although the girls are such strong contenders that it’s going to be tough)
2nd highest: Anoop Desai (Please, please PLEASE don’t let it be Tatiana!!)

Tricia, I could definitely agree with Anne Marie. I think she’s great. I think Alexis got a little more on air exposure which might give her a little edge.
I’m pretty psyched, actually. This year there are some really, really good singers.

Jackie Tohn is going to take it this week. She’s got so much soul in her. I think we’re going to see it come out fully when she is able to perform an entire song.

Hi, Joanne.
Have got to say that my money’s on Danny Gokey, all the way. Loved the guy from the get-go, I think he’s wonderful and real, and his voice is out-of-this-world fantastic.

Three of the top 36 are there for the “shock factor” – Tatiana, Nick/Norman and Nathanial (aka Drama Boy). Danny has been my favorite from his very first audition. The tragedy surrounding his late wife, though touching and sad, did not sway my decision. The man has some serious pipes! My favorite girl is Jasmine with Jackie Tohn in a VERY close second. I wouldn’t mind seeing any of these 3 be the next idol, but in all honesty, I simply hope it is Danny. btw … I think it is a travesty that Jamar was not chosen for the top 36. He outsung most of the folks that made it. Just my .02.

I totally agree about Jackie Tohn. She’s got a great voice.
It’ll be interesting tonight to see them actually sing an entire song. From just what we’ve seen so far, Alexis has an edge because she’s had more air time, but from a talent perspective? Some really talented girls perform tonight: Anne Marie, Jackie, Alexis, Stevie, Casey. I think Danny, no matter what he sings, will sow up the guy’s vote, judging just from the traffic I’ve seen on posts about him.
But I’m telling you, if Tatiana gets through, I might have to poke needles in my eyeballs, LOL.
