Katy Perry Speaks to Katie Couric About Her Christian Background

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 1:17pm Thursday February 5, 2009

Quirky pop star Katy Perry spoke last night with Katie Couric in a pre-Grammy special. Perry talked about her Pentacostal background, likening it to the documentary “Jesus Camp.” “I didn’t know they had behind the scenes footage of my childhood,” the “I Kissed A Girl” star quipped. (You can read my review of “Jesus Camp” on my website.)Perry talked about her respect and appreciation of her Christian upbringing, without actually admitting that she still holds those beliefs as an adult. She spilled the beans on her parents, telling Couric that her mom once went on a date with Jimi Hendrix and her dad was a follower of Timothy Leary. Like everyone else, Perry explains, they have a past. And her parents, while maybe not singing along with all of her songs, do support her. They even made a cameo appearance in the video for Perry’s song, “Hot and Cold,” playing the bride’s parents. But Perry does admit that her own past is still part of her present. When Couric asked about the “Jesus” tattoo on her wrist, Perry said that when she plays guitar the tattoo stares back at her. To her, it says, “Remember, you came from this and you can always go back to it.”The more I hear from Katy Perry, the more I like her. She’s really funny and has a very campy, tongue-in-cheek take on everything. She’s polite and gracious, and she doesn’t try and force her views on anyone. And she’s respectful of her Christian background, even if she doesn’t necessarily believe it all now. Katy Perry is nominated for a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance with “I Kissed A Girl,” a song that ironically her label didn’t want to include in her album. The Grammys will be handed out February 8th and broadcast live on CBS. I saw this interview on TV and I am still not sure what to think of Katy Perry. It seems almost as if Katy Perry is a part Katy Hudson (her real name) is playing, as if she’s two people– one, the good Christian girl raised by ministers singing worship songs, and the other, a brazen, outrageous pop tart shaking her ta tas for the masses and lip smackin’ girls with a wink in her eye. Very interesting person this Hudson-Perry woman. I hope Hollywood doesn’t turn her toward sex and drugs to the point where we see her on Celebrity Rehab. Now that she’s out of the confines of Christian music and into an “anything goes” world, I wonder if that Jesus tattoo on her wrist will mean anything.

When you are raised in a christian family, you will at some point in your life meet reality and see the many mistakes christians do. You feel disappointed. And you start to seek after “fun”, something more in life. Maybe you start to do bad things and than a lot of guilt will build up inside you. You feel disgusted about your self and to ashamed to confront God. It’s almost like we don’t believe that God can forgive our BIG sin! It’s to big. And than you let the sin in your life winn. Because you don’t fell you deserve Gods love and forgiveness.
This I want to say: It is not God there is something wrong with,it is some people of his fan club!
God has an amazing ability to turn your hurting situasion around and you’ll learn form it.
God never promised to make everyday of my life easy, but he did promise to be with me everyday in every situation and guide me, if i let him. And I’ve have to say to God every morning:I choose to live for you. How can I do your will today. Show me and guide me!
=)

God is all about second chances. I am praying for Katy with faith that God will do something. And truthfully i know that God is tugging at her heart and drenching her with His love. I know that God will be restore her first love which is Jesus. People are going to look back at this comment and say, “Hey he was right!” i know it. God is especially fond of Katy.

” They will know you by the fruits you sow…..”. Once you have full knowledge of who Jesus Christ is, and except Him into your life, then fall away…..He will never forsake you, or leave you as He continues to knock on your hearts door.
