Ah, the life of the Christian celebrity, when everything you and your family does makes front page news. Today, it’s Jermaine Jakes, son (or stepson, as some media are reporting) of prominent pastor, music artist and author T.D. Jakes.
Apparently Jermaine Jakes was arrested during an undercover sex sting in Dallas when Jermaine Jakes exposed himself and … ahem … well, you know … in front of an undercover police officer. Police were investigating citizen complaints of sexual activity at the park.
The alleged incident occurred January 3 in a southern Dallas park, just a few blocks from Pastor T.D. Jakes’ the 30,000 member church, The Potter’s House.
T.D. Jakes is well-known in Christian circles but has also become a household name in the mainstream as the best-selling author of books like Woman, Thou Art Loosed and his latest, Reposition Yourself: Living Life Without Limits. Pastor Jakes has also appeared numerous times on “The Dr. Phil Show.”
The incident just goes to show that those Christian celebrities often held up as idols are no different than the rest of us. Their families have troubles just like the rest of us. I feel badly for the Jakes’ family but know that Pastor Jakes will handle the situation with his trademark grace and class. I’m sure prayer for the family would be appreciated.

I’m a Roman Catholic who doesn’t know much about T.D. Jakes except that he is a famous Protestant pastor and founder of a very successful mega church.
However, it is inexcusable for beliefnet or a blogger on beliefnet to be reporting about the misfortune of this pastor’s step-son. What business is it of yours or anyone else’s ?
Shame on you !!!

Hey, he made a mistake, ok? Everybody is entitled to make mistakes, because nobody is perfect. In fact, there was only one perfect person who ever walked planet earth and His name was Jesus Christ! So let’s
lay off this poor boy and give him a break!

After your children are grown dont matter what you taught them they will go astray it is not the parent fault. All we can do is pray for him and his family. What ever demons cause him to do that,

I am not taking sides, but what has been reported about this young man has made it seems that an sexual act was about to take place. It could had been him having to urinate, when officers were saw him. I am so tired of police don’t tell the truth, as well the media falsifying stories. And Belief, you don’t report on police brutally when caught on tape. Keep Bishop Jakes and his family in prayer, I know I will. There is always two-sides to a story.

Do you have information which makes you believe that the police and/or the media not telling the truth in this instance or is it a general accusatory statement?

Boys oryoung teens have always exposed themselves in public-but not intentonally. When andnmy friends played football on the “neutral-ground,” for hours we had to “Pee” and we didn’t have a place to get rid of it, so we would turn inconspicuously antd ry to do it in the opposite direction of the coming traffic. Sometimes we played in public park and did it behind a bush or tree. If the young man is intentionally exposing himself out of a need for grtafiation, it is a little sign of a deeper problem. Erikson states, that behavior learned can be unlearned…” A. Terance

This “child” is 29, so he knew better than to expose himself in a public park. So, please, let’s stop with the lame, illogical excuses for his anti-social behavior. Having said that, I too will pray that he finds peace however he chooses to resolve his situation.

To all of you defending Bishop Jakes, let me just remind you that if he had a more inclusive ministry, and respected gay people for being who they are, his stepson might not have felt the need to take such a troubled outlet as cruising the park for sex. I think this should be a wake-up call for Jakes and all like-minded individuals in Dallas who hide their homophobia behind their Christianity.
My prayers actually are for Jermaine that he will find love and healing away from the spiritual abuse of his father and his megachurch, and that he will know that his sexuality is a gift from god, and not the “brokenness” his stepfather speaks of.

Bishop Jakes we thank you in advance for what God is about to do in the life of you, ALL of your family, and the church. I am laughing at the devil as I will not lose my focus… God is about to take you, your family, your ministry to the next level. And guess what! I am going to the higher level in Christ right along you and first lady Jakes and your family. I only have one more thing to say…
Get Ready Get Ready Get Ready! In Jesuss Name the healing is complete!

TD Jakes does not have a stepson…Do your research before you print lies. Besides that, why was this story held back so long…then published?

Tonya, like I said, some of the papers are reporting that he’s his son and some are saying he is his stepson. Perhaps you should read the entire post before you comment.
I reported on it a day or two after it was in the papers. I don’t know why it was held for a few weeks by the media but perhaps you can check with the papers that wrote the story. I included one link in my post.

Let’s realize first, TD Jakes was called by God, not his children. Being the granddaughter of an old AME Minster people seem to put the calling of the parent on the members of the family. Which is wrong. God said if you live right he will save your whole house. He did not say immediately when you answer your call. Don’t you know the devil will mess with a called persons family alot more then he will anyone else. BUT I know a God who can take a man who exposes himself in public and save him.

I, like Pastor Jakes and his wife, have been both humbled and humiliated by the outward actions of a son who claims he is “gay.” This revelation has rocked our family to the core of our being and the only thing we have to hold on to is the truth of the one true God and His son, Jesus Christ. Our son recently moved home after being “out there” and has a passion right now to be in church and the things of the world are not appealing to him. My prayers are with Pastor Jakes. The enemy would try anything he can to rock that family and break what is God’s. But he can’t and I applaud and pray for the Jakes family through this trial. I have been struggling for years and have seen what the Lord can do and how the enemy tries to interrupt the anointing. It can’t happen. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. Hold on Pastor Jakes and continue your part in this war of principalities. My love and prayers go out to your family and I pray for those who mock your preaching of His word and your evangelical mission field.
