In a statement yesterday, music artist Chris Brown has withdrawn himself from consideration for the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song.
The statement said:
“Chris very much appreciates the support of his fans and the honor they have paid him in the way of nominations for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song. Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated. While Chris would like to speak to his fans directly about this and other issues, pending legal proceedings preclude his doing so at this time. Once the matter before him has been resolved, he intends to do so.”
You know what I say? Good for you, Chris Brown. I completely respect that decision and think it was a honorable move on his part.
The Kids’ Choice Awards should honor artists who are good role models for kids, and I completely respect that with the recent situation with Rihanna, Chris Brown wasn’t modeling behavior that we want our kids to emulate or idealize. What I think we do want our kids to model is repentence, humility and remorse, and watching an artist deal with the consequences of bad behavior offers a great teaching moment.
The Kids’ Choice Awards Take Place Saturday March 28th on Nickelodeon and is hosted by Dwayne Johnson. The awards have kids vote on their favorite movies, actors, singers, TV shows, books and more. You can see all of the nominees on the Kids’ Choice Awards website.
