American Idol Top 7 Results Show – The Judges Use Their Save On Matt Giraud!

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 1:06pm Wednesday April 15, 2009

MattGiraud.jpgIn Last night the Top 7 American Idol contestants sang their hearts out to song from the cinema, with special guest mentor Quentin Tarantino. Tonight, we find out who goes home.
Top performers last night included Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert. Kara and Randy were divided on Kris Allen’s performance. Anoop Desai proved that he deserves to stick around another week, and Allison Iraheta rocked the house. Lil Rounds was disappointing again, as was Matt Giraud. I expect both of them to be in the bottom three.
But who goes home? Join me tonight live as we find out! (Trust me, it’s exciting!)

8:59 – almost showtime! In addition to finding out the results from last night’s show, we’ll see performances by Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus.
Ryan reminds us that the Top 10 will go on tour beginning in July in Portland, OR. So if you were really in love with Megan or Michael or Scott, you’ll get another chance to see them perform live.
Here’s the weekly Ford Fusion commericial, to “Freeze Frame.” Weird, it has six of the contestants singing on magazine covers and Matt Giraud just standing there at the newstand.
The group performance is “Maniac,” from the movie “Flashdance.” Thankfully, no more Bryan Adams. Each of the contestants sounds better tonight on their solos than they did last night. Not that it matters; the cards are already dealt.
The contestants went to te premier last night of the new movie “17 Again,” and even got to meet the stars, including Zac Efron, Scarlett Johansson and Matthew Perry. Idol’s become one long commercial. Cars, movies, sodas. Let’s just have some results!
Ryan starts with Allison and she’s safe.
Adam is next; Adam says he wasn’t insulted at all by the Rocky Horror comparison. Doesn’t matter, Adam is safe.
Up next is Anoop; the crowd makes a lot of noise for him, but he’s in the bottom three again, for the third week in a row. Who joins him? We find out after Jennifer Hudson performs.
Jennifer Hudson is the only Idol contestant to win an Oscar. Her video intro is so interesting, to see how she’s changed, to see her back for the first time afater winning an Academy Award and an Oscar. (No mention of her family tragedy.) She’s singing “If This Isn’t Love.” Clearly, getting voted off Idol was one of the best things to happen to her. She looks great, she sounds great, she’s clearly a star.
Total side note: I’m looking forward to that new Fox show, “Glee.”
Ryan asks Anoop if he’s frustrated, and he says he is a bit. He thought he sang well, and even Paula says she’s surprised he’s there. Simon says he deserves to be there.
Kris is up next – someone in the audience yells “My sister loves you” – and he tells Ryan that he doesn’t regret not playing the guitar. Simon says that he didn’t get a chance to give him feedback and says he was brilliant. (Question: did Simon not being able to give feedback last night affect the voting?) Lil’s also standing up as well, and she tells Ryan she’s frustrated by the judges comments and feels like she can’t win. Kris is safe and Lil heads over to the bottom three stools with Anoop.
Matt and Danny are up next. Ryan asks Matt if he would do anything differently, and he sid he’d probably not mess with the melody again. Danny talks about his song, and Randy says “You worked it out.” Which one goes to the bottom three? Matt again.
So I called the bottom three. Kara says she thinks its the right group to be going home, and I agree. Who’s safe? I think it’s Anoop … it’s …. Anoop! “That cat’s got nine lives,” my husband said. I called it. I think Lil is going home but we’ll find out after Miley Cyrus sings.
I’ve never seen Miley Cyrus actually perform, so this will be interesting. She’s singing “The Climb” and she’s actually quite good. Her performance was weird, though. She was kind of catatonic at the beginning and slipped in to a rocker mode by the end. But the song was lovely and I’m grateful it wasn’t some raunchy, self-indugent-for-the-sake-of-art crap like we’ve seen in weeks past. Kudos to Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus for keeping the family entertainment alive tonight.
So we have Matt and Lil left in the bottom two, and Simon says he might consider one of the contestants and that “it might be a surprise to that person.” I think he means Matt.
We’re back, and let’s find out who’s going home. After 36 million votes, and Matt is going home. Which in my opinion is wrong. She’s failed every week, while Matt has at least shined. So Matt “sings for his life” and Kara and Paula stand up to cheer him on.
I hate this. The judges should have already decided what they’re going to do in any possible scenerio, rather than spend the whole song debating on the sidelines. With three minutes left, there’s still a chance fo the judges to decide to use the save. The crowd is chanting, “Save! Save! Save!” Simon asks Matt how many times he’s been in the bottom three, and says he wasn’t better tonight than last night and doesn’t think he has a chance to win.
But it’s good news! The judges are using their one and only save on him!! The crowd goes wild! The contestants go wild! American idol history! Matt is crying and the crowd is going wild!
Simon has some bad news now. First, next week two people will go home, and second, next week is disco night, which could be the kiss of death for any of the contestants.
So there you have it. American Idol history!

There’s no competition. American Idol is The Adam Lambert Show. Last Tuesday was the Adam Lambert Concert. Adam is a star. He is on his way to become a superstar and a legend in the likes of Elvis and Michael Jackson.
Danny is the same every week notwithstanding the harp and him sitting down at the start. No way he can do an Adam. It turned out same way. His voice can only go one way. No tenderness with that emotional song.
Lil has no talent in using her powerful voice. She’s just karaoke. At last, Simon has opened his eyes. Don’t know where their coming from in praising Lil every week. She has not killed a song. There was never a wow moment with her.
All the rest are the same with good vocals. I like them all as there’s no one I don’t like.
But with Adam around, they all seem simply mediocre. He is simply stunning and electrifying. No contest.

I really hate that judges’ save (it’s a double rejection every week) but I’m not gonna lie. I’m thrilled that if they were going to use it, they used it on Matt!

I think it will come between Danny and Adam with Allison in third. I really hope that Danny wins it all.

I thought the “save” was a total waste of everyone’s time. Matt is not going to win. Next week he and Lil will go home. Or possibly Anoop. And next will be Danny. The final three will be Allison, Kris, and Adam. Adam will win. Allison will go on to be the next Jennifer Hudson. And Kris will make it big on a Christian label.
If I’m right do I get a prize? :)

Luann, if you’re right you get bragging rights, LOL.
I think the final three will be Danny, Adam and Kris. I think Lil will go home next week; not sure who will join her. I really think it’ll depend on performances.
But it’s fun to speculate! :)

I like Matt Giraud, so I’m happy he was saved. If Danny bows out early *crosses fingers, hoping he won’t*, I will put all my votes behind Matt. He has a lot of potential, and he as a really nice voice.

I would normally back a rocker, and am sure if Danny wasn’t in it, I’d be backing Adam full throttle. Danny is a different kind of contestant, and his fearlessness of projecting to all his spirituality is what I find most appealing. He doesn’t need perfect vocals, because I find the meaning behind his words more powerful than technical perfection.
