The Associated Press reports that Reverend Timothy Wright has died as the result of injuries sustained last July from an accident that killed his wife and grandson. He was 61.
Rev. Wright has been hospitalized since the accident with injuries related to a severe C4 spinal cord injury in the accident. By October, he had been taken off a respirator and was able to breathe on his own, and had begun to move his neck and arms. Family had thought he might be home for the holidays. He took a turn for the worse several months ago, however, and has remained in a Bronx hospital.
Rev. Wright was the pastor at Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York and a Grammy-nominated music artist with more than a dozen albums to his credit. He received a Grammy nomination in 1995 for best traditional soul gospel album for his album, Come Thou Almighty King. His latest project, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, was released in 2007. Betty and Rev. Wright were nominated for a 2008 Stellar Award for Song of the Year for the album's title cut.
The Wrights were on their way home to Roosevelt, Long Island last July after attending a church conference in Detroit, Michigan, when the accident occurred on Interstate 80 in Greene Township, Pennyslvania. Betty Wright was killed in the crash and their grandson D.J. died later at the hospital. The driver the other vehicle, John Pick, 44, of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, also died in the accident. A passenger in a third car was injured.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

My heart goes out to the entire Wright family and my prayer is that God will continue to give you strength through your time of bereavement. He will be truly missed in the gospel industry. We wanted him here but God needed him even more. If we only knew half of what truly happens when we die in christ, we (every christian) would want to go where Rev. Wright is right now. God left it such a mistery (except when he returns again)that I guarantee that Rev. Wright is smiling and wishing he could share with the world what he now knows. I know we will all miss him but let's keep the faith and smile with him and focus on the day we will rejoice and see our loved ones again. Amen
WE LOVED REVEREND WRIGHT BUT GOD LOVED HIM SO MUCH MORE. WE PRAY THAT THIS WILL BRING THE FAMILIES MUCH CLOSER TOGETHER SO THAT WE CAN ALL BE TOGETHER ONE DAY , THE BIBLE SAYS THAT TO BE ABSENT FROM THE BODY IS TO BE PRESENT WITH THE LORD. WE HAVE NO DOUBT THAT REV, WRIGHT IS WITH THE LORD. BE COMFORTED IN THIS TIME THAT GOD SEES EVERY TEAR AND WILL IN TIME WIPE, ALL TEARS AWAY . The world has truly lost a great man..When ever I was going through a situation in life that have me to feel a little down..I would play some of his cd's and they would immediately minister to me..God has truly blessed my life and brought me through a lot of life situations with his music..To the Wright family.my prayers are with you..Thank you for allowing not only me but the rest of the world to enjoy this mans ministry and music...Thanks again
I offer my condolences to the Wright Family at such a time as this. He will certainly be missed; his ministry and music will continue through the annals of time. I enjoyed his messages, and music-"Jesus, Jesus, Jesus" was just one of my favorites.
May God bless his family with that peace which passes all understanding, and may He keep their hearts and minds through Christ Jesus, (paraphrased)according to Philippians 4:7.
