American Idol Top 3 – My Predictions For Tonight’s Results Show

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 6:52am Wednesday May 13, 2009

Last night the remaining Idols – Kris Allen, Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert – sang their little hearts out, with both a personal song choice and a judge’s song choice. All three knocked their personal choices out of the park, but were a little iffy on the judges’ choices, proving that they know their talents better than the judges.
The judges made a clear and blatant pitch for Adam, Simon going so far as to ask people to vote for Adam.
A few weeks ago I went out on a limb and predicted Kris Allen to win the competition. I thought I’d explain my thoughts a little more and then we’ll see tonight if I’m right.

1) I think the judges’ blatant bias may work against Adam tonight. Fans have proven again and again that they’ll vote for another contestant just to prove the judges wrong.
2) Adam probably isn’t winning any new fans. Yes, he’s extremely talented, but unless you like his style of rock music, you probably aren’t going to pick up the phone and vote.
3) Adam has been in the bottom three; but it’s likely he picked up Allison’s voters after she was sent home last week.
4) I think Kris has been the underdog in this competition, and I think he’s going to make it through tonight. In fact, I think they’ll call him first and let the audience sweat out whether Danny or Adam is through while we sit through Katy Perry singing.
5) I think that Kris has a better chance of winning than the other contestants, and here’s why:
If it comes down to an Adam/Kris finale, Kris picks up Danny’s votes and wins.
If it’s a Danny/Kris finale, (which is still a possibility), Kris picks up Adam’s votes and wins
If it’s a Danny/Adam finale they split Kris’ votes and Adam wins.
Based on some informal reader polling I’ve done, I think Danny and Adam both have very, very strong fan bases that are so different that neither’s fans will vote for the other. Kris, on the other hand, appeals to both fan bases. So Kris really has the edge.
But we’ll see tonight!

Couldn’t disagree with you more. Adam will probably win tonight and the final. His vocal talent is amazing and he has the look of an American Idol, even if his lifestyle is not necessarily typical. Danny on the other hand has been so unfairly bashed by the “journalists” (and I use that term very loosely), on the internet and the small minds that often read this crap, that it is amazing he is still hanging in there. I believe that many if not most of his fans do not bother reading the crap on the internet. Danny has been acused of being arogant, untalented, clumsy, nerdy, you name it. The truth is he is an incredible young man who loved his wife to pieces, has such humility and confidence and of course an amazing voice.
His behavior during the weekend home was nothing short of amazing. Signing hundreds of autographs, talking to his fans everywhere, giving interview after interview, performing seven or eight songs with a band for 27,000 people when his throat was killing him. Singing the national anthem without accompanyment in front of 42,000 people at the Brewers/Cubs game and throwing out the first pitch- all on two hours sleep. I believe Danny will keep his huge fan base and finish second.

I’m not that impressed with Adam. One week I think brilliant the next ho hum. I didn’t care for his U2 rendition of One at all. In fact, I think he ruined the song. I was more impressed with both Danny’s and Kris’s picks then the Judges. I thought all the Judge picks were duds this year. I have been thinking what Adam did for his song, just remembered, not impressed with that song either. I think Adam may be in trouble tonight especially if you consider people like me who hasn’t voted this season, but picked up the phone last night and voted for all, but Adam. Either way, Adam will be on his way win or no win.

I agree with the first person to post this morning…I wish everyone would leave Danny alone. I would love to see him win and I realize he probably won’t but if he has to come in second I would like for it to be second against Kris. I have never like Adam like everyone else, yes he can sing but I don’t care for the sound of his voice at all.
I have never seen arrogance in Danny, I think his quiet nature makes people want to call him arrogant.
GO DANNY GO!!!

Unfortunately, at this point talent has nothing to do with it. It’s strictly a teeny bopper popularity contest.
Now – base you pick on that criteria, and you have the winner.

The judges keep talking about Adam hitting these high notes and how his range is unbelievable. My personal opinion, especially after last night, his high notes sound to me like a two year old child throwing a temper tantrum. He does sing well in the the low ranges, however, when he goes for those high notes, He is screamming more than he is singing. My personal favorite was Alyson. Unlike the prediction, I will not be voting for Adam. To me, Kris is a true talent. Based on the top 3, I feel that Adam is too theatrical, Danny is too gospel, and Kris could sing any genre he wanted. I could easily see him in Pop, country, or rock. When a person can stand on stage in front of a live audience and millions of people viewing at home with simply his guitar and preform the way he did last night, to me, that’s an AMERICAN IDOL!!
Go Kris!

I VOTE FOR KRIS!
of course I wanted Ty to stay on Dancing With the Stars(just for sheer entertainment and a laugh out loud now and then) but that’s over.
Any will do at this point, as far as I’m concerned. I really liked Alexis and she was eliminated after her Dolly Parton song.
Song choice will probably rule from now on.

Are you guys serious? Kris is not really that good. His range is very limited, and he has been far more pitchy that any of the top 5 or 6. Allison, Danny, and Adam should be the top 3. Kris……. should be out, but will get the girl’s votes just for being a pretty boy which is pathetic!!! Adam is talented, but his screaming the high notes is actually getting old.
Danny can sing anything, and has proven that. He can sing Mariah (done it), to Garth Brooks (should), to Seal(done), to Sammy Hagar (should), etc. Anyone who says he is not the best SINGER is lacking musical ability, knowledge, and experience. Kris is prettiest, Adam is best performer, but Danny is the best singer!!!

I agree Tim…Danny has always proven he can sing. I don’t care at all for the shrilly sound Adam makes when he gets in a high range.

I agree with Tim. Danny has the best chops. And I do believe Kris is not that great of a singer. His looks got him there. He will even readily admit that. I think Matt sang better than him.
Danny = Best Singer
Adam = Best Performer
Kris = Can make a song more current at best
And just for the writer. I am a die hard Danny fan, if Danny gets voted off I will probably set my votes to Adam because I think he deserves it more than Kris. Between all the negativity Danny and Adam have gotten from critics about their lives and lifestyle, they deserve the best! Maybe placing third for Danny might not be a bad thing. Even though, he is the best by far.

Danny always looks so victimized…so eeyore….no real charisma and he sounds like joe cocker all the time and that can get old………kris can play instruments which is nice and he has a nice voice but i would be bored listening to him in the car every day whereas Adam is so multitalented that i love his soft rock, his rock and his soulful ballads……….tracks of my tears and if i cant have you are two amazing ballad type soulful songs ..i disagree with the judges i think his recordings should be all types of music not just rock not at all. Danny is a nice guy but i see signs of him being a bit nasty and jealous to be honest

that is not screaming ..adam does, that is hitting notes that danny cannot even dream of without sounding like he swallowed and inhaled a gravel bed Danny is too down and depressed and unhappy looking always to ever be an actual idol……plus his song last week was just pathetically awful even he admitted it………. adam has it all………a total idol and if you view his you tube performance as joshua in that ten commandments play he did with val kilmer in 2004 or so? omg he was amazing took your heart away. Danny is too YAWN to be an idol , no pizzaz

LOL, you guys are ALL AWESOME! I love the diversity of opinion and why you love your favorite contestant! Personally, I think Kris is going to pull of the win if he makes the final two, but any of the three would be wonderful Idols, and all three will go on to make and sell records, no problem.

The sound mix was appalling last night. The band were so off & the backing singer screaming over Adam was unnecessary, cringe-worthy and you could see it totally threw him off guard. He yanked his ear piece out during the performance & looked so miffed doing so. He had the loud band in one ear & the backup singer in his other ear, it’s crazy he even managed to stay remotely focused. You’d think after all these years, they’d manage to get it perfect. Wth.

As far as record sales go, Simon Cowell who is behind all of this is going to go for who’s going to pull in the most money, and although I’m a huge Danny fan, Kris is going to make them the most money, thus he’ll be going to the finals and more than likely winning the whole competition.

I think Adam should sing CRAZY ON YOU BY HEART omg he would definitely win then kris (or is it chris) is good but can get boring Adam is never boring he is the ultimate entertainer, the ultimate performer the ultimate singer who can hit notes without effort he is the find of the decade chris ia fun and cute and nice and i like his style from time to time but Adam is perfect ALL the time i love his soulful ballads best of all i love his old stuff too i love that song he sang in 2004 or so, when he played Joshua in Ten Commandments omg he took my breath away

Looks like you`re right on te money! I`m BIG kris fan and I think you prolly right, KRIS will pick up the Danny votes next week. Love Kris ` musical abilty and his interpretations of popular songs. Heartless was the best version last night! I will buy his records anyway despite what happens next week. Wonder how many people have seen the movie ‘Once” after his heartfelt rendering of “Falling slowly”. Just beautiful! GO KRIS!
