Christian Music Artist To Watch: High Valley

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 3:09pm Sunday May 10, 2009

One of the great things about GMA week is that you get to meet new artists and find out about new projects coming out later in the years. This year especially a couple of the labels made a special effort to feed the media lunch or dinner and give us time to mingle with their new artists, to talk to artists with new projects coming out, and to hear a few songs and stories. At the Centricity dinner, we got to hear from one of their newer acts, High Valley. Understand that I’m not a fan of country music, but this band totally blew me away. They were able to tell a story, break your heart, and not sound cheesy. That’s good country music, my friend. (And since I’m not the expert on country, I asked my husband, who loves country, to check out this video. He said they were great. So there you go.)Partway through the night I turned on my little digital video camera, and while the audio quality of this clip isn’t great, I’m so excited to share this band with you I thought I’d post it anyway. The guys in High Valley hail from Alberta, Canada, farm land, way up north. The band is made up of three brothers – left to right, Curtis, Brad and Brian Rempel.Again, I’m not a country music expert, but if there’s one thing I know it’s a radio friendly, pull at your heartstrings hit song from a talented group. And these guys hit every mark. If you visit High Valley’s MySpace page you can listen to snippets of more songs, check out tour dates, and learn more about the band. Their debut release was tentatively scheduled for summer but I’ll let you know when as soon as I hear.Click here to subscribe to Gospel Soundcheck by email and have the Gospel Soundcheck headlines delivered daily to your email inbox. I just listened to the song ‘The best way he knew how’ and cried my eyes out. It touched me so much and described my dad exactly. He is dead now and and he never said I love you to me but listening to this song made me realize that he did, and this is how he said it. I LOVE this song and am so glad for this new group. We own a christian radio station and I am looking forward to adding some songs by them on our radio station.
