David Cook Announces His Brother's Death During 5K Benefit Run

Sunday May 3, 2009

Categories: American Idol

(NOTE: My apologies for those of you who got the goofy titled link to this post. I was in a hurry this week doing posts because I had to report for jury duty, and didn't go back and re-check what I wrote. When someone pointed it out, I realized it made absolutely no sense! It's been fixed and I appreciate your patience with my terrible spellchecking this week! - Joanne)

American Idol winner David Cook announced today, Sunday May 3, that his brother Adam, who had been battling a brain tumor, died on Saturday. David Cook was the Grand Marshal at the annual Race for Hope DC, a 5K race to benefit National Brain Tumor Society. Although he began his welcome speech in a jovial frame of mind, his choked back tears talking about his brother, adding that there wasn't anywhere else he would have rather been that day. Cook apparently cancelled some shows on his current tour a few weeks ago, and spent time with his brother, saying their goodbyes then.

Entertainment Weekly reports that in honor of Adam's memory, fans can make donations to David's Race for Hope team, which according to People.com was the top fund-raiser, bringing in more than $98,000; the race in total raised almost $2 million. Contributions will be accepted through Sept. 30.

Adam Cook was an extraordinary person. I had the great pleasure of meeting him and his family last year at the American Idol finale. He was a great inspiration for many, and will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, Adam.

Jestrfyl - LOL, I wrote that title - I had jury duty and was trying to get a post up in a hurry and didn't go back and read what I wrote. My bad - it's been a crazy few weeks. Sorry about that!

hi joanne, i enjoyed reading your articles on AI & Danny Gokey and your sense of humour.

Like you, I'm rooting for Kris Allen. Adam, whether he wins it or not, he's a star already. So let the underdawg WIN it!
