CCM legend Steven Curtis Chapman was recently awarded the Lifetime Volunteer Service Award from The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.
The service honor recognizes Chapman’s tireless passion of caring for the millions of orphans around the world through Show Hope, the orphan care ministry started by him and his wife, Mary Beth. The Chapmans have adopted three children; their youngest, Maria, was killed in an accident last year.
This lifetime achievement service award, the highest level possible from The President’s Council, comes on the heels of the recent recognition of the Chapman’s and their orphan care advocacy from the Children’s Hunger Fund’s Children’s Champion Award. The award was presented to Chapman by Michael W. Smith during a concert in Nashville while the two were on tour together. Smith was named to The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation in 2008.
