Michael Jackson, The Beatles, and a (very) brief lesson on song publishing rights

Yesterday on his radio show, host Glenn Beck talked about Michael Jackson and his ownership of the publishing rights to the Beatles catalog of songs.

Most people know that in 1984 Michael Jackson bought the rights to the Beatles' songs, but Beck was making the point that most people don't know that the reason the Beatles sold the rights to their songs to begin with was because they were losing 90% of their income to taxes. He likens the Beatles problem with taxes to our problems today.

Steven Curtis & MaryBeth Chapman Announce "Maria's House of Hope" To Open July 2 in China

showhope.jpgShow Hope, the adoption ministry of Steven Curtis and Mary Beth Chapman, announces the official opening July 2 of Maria's Big House of Hope in Luoyang, China. As the finishing touches are being made to this healing home for special needs orphans, the offices of Show Hope, located in Franklin, Tennessee, celebrated stateside for the hope and future of these orphans at an invite-only open house last week for friends and family.

Maria's Big House of Hope is a healing home dedicated to saving the lives of special needs orphans in China. The facility is named in loving memory of the Chapman's 5-year old daughter, Maria Sue Chunxi Chapman, whom they adopted from China in 2004 when she was just one year old. Maria was killed in an accident last May.

The facility provides for orphans throughout the country who are in desperate need of surgeries and special medical attention, offering them the highest level of care and enabling the children to thrive. In turn, there is hope that this necessary medical attention increases the orphans chances of being adopted.

Entertainer Fred Travalena Dies

The Associated Press reports that entertainer Fred Travalena died yesterday in Los Angeles. He was 66. Travalena suffered from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma that first surfaced in 2002. The cancer resurfaced in 2008. Travalena is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lois; sons Fred IV and Cory; daughter-in-law, Kelly; and a granddaughter.

Travalena was best known for his celebrity impressions, which earned him the nicknames "Mr. Everybody" and "The Man of a Thousand Faces." His extensive resume included television shows and headlining shows in Las Vegas, Reno and Atlantic City; he was a regular on the late night talk show circuit. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2005.

Pop Icons Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson Die

Then, while media outlets were gearing up for feature stories on the former "Charlie's Angels" beauty, news broke in the afternoon that 50-year-old pop icon Michael Jackson had died of cardiac arrest, and the airwaves became the all Michael Jackson, all the time network.
