Cooking With Christian Music: Sugar Cookie Recipe from VeggieTales’ Bob and Larry

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 7:29am Friday July 3, 2009

BobandLarry.jpgMy friends over at VeggieTales, Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber, want to share a cookie recipe they created to celebrate the release of their new Christmas DVD, “Saint Nicholas – A Story of Joyful GIving.”
These yummy Christmas cookies are too good to wait until December. So let’s celebrate Christmas in July, with Bob and Larry’s sugar cookie recipe! Why not use a star cookie cutter to make some 4th of July stars?

Bob & Larry’s Sugar Cookies
“Christmastime means cookies are in the oven just for me! The smell of yummy morsels makes me want to hum ‘Deck The Halls’ while my tummy starts to grumble.” says Larry the Cucumber. “I like to paint my cookies with colorful icing – or if time’s a wastin’, simply sprinkle ‘em with colored sugar.”
Prep Time: 20 Minutes
Cook Time: 10 Minutes
Ready In: 30 Minutes
Servings: 30
Ingredients:
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
Directions:
1. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add egg and extracts.Combine flour, baking soda and cream of tartar; gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Chill for at least 1 hour. On a surface lightly sprinkled with confectioners’ sugar, roll out the dough to 1/8-in. thickness. Cut into desired shapes. You can even use your Bob & Larry cookie cutters! Place on ungreased baking sheets. Repeat with the remaining dough. Bake at 350 degrees F for 7-8 minutes, or until the edges begin to brown.
Cool and eat!
You can learn more about Bob and Larry on the Big Idea website. And catch them Saturday mornings on qubo Channel and NBC!

Is this the same sugar cookie recipe that was printed on the back of the sugar cookie cutters for the “Star of Christmas” movie years ago? I recently lost the recipe, and was thrilled to find this one; it seems different, but I will try it. :)
