Video: Hawk Nelson and Tom’s Shoes

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 11:49am Wednesday July 22, 2009

Well, even I admit that this video is blatant promotion for Tom’s Shoes, but when the company is committed to giving away a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of shoes you purchase, I can’t help but share it.I’ll be honest. The first time I heard that a company was committed to giving away shoes I thought, “Shoes? Really? What about food? Water? Medicine?”Then I learned more and it started to make sense. In many countries in the world, people walk everywhere they go – to the river to get water, for days to get medical treatment. The chance for injury and disease are great, simply because people don’t have adequate footwear.I mean, really. The things we take for granted, living in a developed country. Imagine if you had to walk five miles a day over rocky, dirty, hot terrain, just to get water, which you then hauled back in huge jugs. Imagine that there was a clinic available where you could get life-saving HIV or malaria medicine, but the journey took three days each way by foot. You’d be wanting a pair of shoes, too.(Or if you had to walk barefoot to get to Starbucks for your double mocha decaf no foam latte; oh, the tragedy. Really, have you ever considered how easy life is here in America? But I digress.) Like I told you in June, Hawk Nelson has committed to providing 5,000 pair of shoes to children in Haiti through Toms Shoes and the company’s “One for One” philosophy. Throughout July, the guys will be hosting six “Style your Sole” with Toms Shoes, doing live in-store appearances in cities where the band is playing this summer. You can learn more at Hawk Nelson’s website.Click here to subscribe to Gospel Soundcheck by email and have the Gospel Soundcheck headlines delivered daily to your email inbox. I saw this commerical a few months ago and thought it was a wonderful idea. There are buches of programs to assist with food, medicine, and clothes, but every child should have a decent pair of shoes as well. Tom’s Shoes has made a great contribution in the efforts to help others. Thank you.
