Cooking with Christian Music: Gourmet Egg Sandwich from MikesChair’s Jesse Hale

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 8:16am Friday August 14, 2009

JesseHaleMikesChair.jpgContinuing our Cooking with Christian Music feature, we have another recipe this week from MIKESCHAIR violinist and keyboardist – soon to be newlywed – Jesse Hale.
If you’ve missed the past couple of Cooking with Christian Music recipes, they’ve been from other members of MIKESCHAIR, and we have one left next week.
It’s been fun to share these recipes, because the whole idea ties in nicely with the band’s ministry, MikesTable.
It’s the band’s mission to invite everyone to bring a non-perishable food item to their shows, where every donated food item is then taken to local food banks and church outreach programs. This venture, which has actually been underway for a few years now, is continuing to grow as more items are donated at each concert.
“Our prayer is that people will leave our shows, not with a sense of how awesome the music is, but with a deeper sense of searching and begin asking questions that they weren’t asking when they showed up,” says the band’s lead vocalist Mike Grayson.
So while you think about ways you can reach out to the needy in your own backyard, here’s Jesse’s recipe …

Jesse Hale’s Gourmet Egg Sandwich
Ingredients:
1 english muffin
1 egg
1-2 slices of deli-cut turkey
1-2 slices of cheddar cheese
1-2 slices of fresh avocado
1 small handful of chopped chives
spicy mustard
creole seasoning
ground black pepper
Directions:
1. Prepare sandwich ingredients: slice 1 avocado into sandwich size slices, chop chives into small pieces, slice cheese if necessary, split english muffin
2. Toast english muffin
3. Fry 1 egg to desired style
4. Place fried egg, meat, cheese, and avocado on one half of muffin
5. Spread spicy mustard, sprinkle chopped chives, sprinkle small amount of creole seasoning and ground black pepper
6. Top with other half of muffin
7. Heat sandwich in microwave for 10 seconds
8. As Jesse says, “Stick it in yo mouth.”
