This just in: Hillsong United hits movie theaters across the U.S. in November with the event, "Hillsong United: We're All In This Together." The event happens Wednesday, November 4th at 7:30 p.m. EST / 6:30 p.m. CST / 5:30 p.m. MST and 8:00 p.m. PST.
The event will feature a live introduction by lead singer Joel Houston, followed by a performance from Hillsong United pre-recorded in Sydney the previous night at their home church, and will conclude with the debut of their cause-based documentary "The I Heart Revolution: We're All In This Together."
According to the press release, "The I Heart Revolution: We're All in This Together" documentary is the second of the three-part "The I Heart Revolution" project - a movement of people helping people.
The first installment was last year's CD/DVD "With Hearts as One." The final part is IHeart.org, an online community designed for the sharing of ideas and inspiring users to be part of the solution by transforming local initiatives into a collaborative global impact, is the third and final part of the project.
OK, Hillsong fans. I get it, I get it. Hillsong is the greatest thing since Jesus and the disciples took their show on the road.
But you know how I feel about this commerical Christianity machine spitting out product after product after product. And personally, I'm really really tired of event Christianity; we've become a faith group that needs a whole bunch of stirring up emotionally at big events with big arenas and thousands of people so we can "feel" God and then go do something.
I'm snarking. I know. And if you regularly read this blog, you expected it.
I mean, really. A "movement of people helping people"? Isn't that the foundational teaching of Jesus? Why do we need all of these different organizations, all of these different projects dividing the efforts? What would happen if we worked together with Jesus at the helm, instead of pr people and marketing plans and ...
But that's a rant for another day, one that is bigger than Hillsong. Bigger by a mile.
The HIlsong United event will probably be super cool and inspiring, and you'll leave the theater feeling really good and really pumped up and on a spiritual high. If that's the Christianity you're looking for, then you're sure to find it there.
Tickets are supposedly on sale now, but the links at Fathom Events take you to a place where you can subscribe to get an email when they go on sale, so I can't even tell you how much they are. But you can head over to Fathom Events for more information.

I just hope the message doesn't get looked over because of who is presenting it. They're not trying to re-define Christian theology. I saw the trailer and heard Joel speak about it last month in Frisco at a concert. It came about because they were traveling the world, going places that we never visit, much less think about on a daily basis. It obviously impacted them...seeing the poverty, disease, living conditions...etc. Joel says it over and over... it's bigger than them, bigger than Hillsong United.
