Danny Gokey switches first single from “It’s Only” to “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me”

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 12:00pm Friday November 20, 2009

Danny Gokey previewed his single, “It’s Only,” recently, but it looks like his label, RCA Records Nashville, has had second thoughts. It was reported yesterday that Gokey’s new first single will be “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me.” The single will be going to country radio shortly, but it’s already on Danny’s MySpace page and YouTube. A digital single will be available Dec. 22.You decide: is making the switch from the ballad to the uptempo song a good idea?RELATED POSTS:LA’s Dream Center Youth Outreach Center named for Danny Gokey’s wife, SophiaMore on American Idol contestant Danny Gokey and wife SophiaKris Allen Album Release Date Set for November 17Got a gospel or Christian music news tip? I really like both of these songs. It’s Only is a very heartfelt song with a great message, and shows many of Danny’s strengths as a vocalist. My Best Days is fun and upbeat, also has a great message, and shows another dimension of Danny’s personality and singing abilities.
I’m just happy RCA Nashville had two such great options to choose from. I understand another song for Danny’s album was revealed today, look forward to hearing it.

I love both songs and think they will both do well. I guess My Best Days are Ahead of Me sounds more country. I have just heard a 3rd song written by Jeffery Steel that is absolutely beautiful. So far, 3 for 3 on Danny’s cd. It is going be amazing, can’t wait to buy it!

“My Best Days” is an upbeat, feel good song. I think it will have wider appeal. I can see something like this being very popular in live performances. And the video will be fun. I am willing to bet they will have Danny dancing. Danny said that when it was first performed at Sony, someone said that they can easily see this song being played in a movie. Ironically, the DJ in San Francisco who interviewed Danny said the same thing. It certainly features Danny’s soulful voice. And I don’t think the critics will claim that this is more of a CCM song. And it certainly fits Danny’s personality – he really is an upbeat, fun kind of guy.

Wow, I really like this song, very upbeat, great melody. This definitely has more of a country feel to it and I’m loving it.
Great Job on both songs Danny! I can hardly wait for your album.

Both songs are good but this one is more likely to be commercially successful – the other one is a nice ballad but not fantastic. Clearly this is more country
