One half of the reality TV-land nightmare duo, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, is in the music new’s week. Heidi Montag’s Superficial released last Tuesday.
Back in July of 2008 it was rumored that Montag was interested in recording a Christian music album so when I saw that her new album had released, I was curious.
In the interest of full disclosure, my Heidi/Spencer knowledge is limited to a few pics of them coming out of church holding Bibles and their appearance in June of 2008 on the reality show “I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!” where they talked about Jesus and their faith.
It was a sporadic faith, at best. For example, when Heidi wailed that someone had, and I quote, “vandelized my hair product!”, Spencer went on a violent rampage, prompting Heidi to explain that he was a new Christian and working out his anger issues.
A day later, Spencer was baptized by fellow reality show Christian Stephen Baldwin.
But it’s pretty clear this isn’t a Christian album. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
Your first clue might be that the album comes in both clean and explicit versions. Not that that’s necessarily an indication that it’s not Christian. Derek Webb’s use of the word “shit” in a song caused his label to do clean and explicit versions of his last album, Stockholm Syndrome.
US Weekly calls the album “racy. Verrry racy.” Take the single “I’ll Do It” which includes the line .. good grief, I almost don’t even want to write this … “Come eat my panties off of me / Do whatever you feel comes naturally.”
And there you have it. I guess when Christian music doesn’t pan out, you head right to the gutter side of mainstream music and fund the recording of your own album.
