Thank God – literally – for the Hands and Feet Project, in Jacmel, Haiti. The city was devastated by the magnitude-7 earthquake that hit Port-au-Prince on January 12. With the epicenter halfway between PAP and Jacmel and the media focus in PAP, Jacmel hadn’t seen any aid relief. The roads were impassable, and the need to great in PAP that it might have been ages before anyone could get through. And with the aftershocks still coming – Haiti suffered a magnitude-6 aftershock today – the situation was dire.Fortunately, the Hands and Feet Project sustained little damage, thanks to its strong construction, so the folks there were able to reach out to their neighbors who suffered greatly. I told you that Mark Stuart had traveled to the city of Jacmel and the mayor said no one had come to offer any help. The orphange had taken some of the children left orphaned after the quake.Well, H&F to the rescue again. With the permission of the mayor of Jacmel, H&F has arranged for a supply plane from California to fly to Jacmel’s dirt runway (via Miami and the Dominican Republic). The plane brought much needed relief for the people and hospitals. As you can see from this video, Mark Stuart has become a spokesperson of sorts, from local stations to MSNBC and CNN. He also writes on the blog:

“Just got back from Jacmel hospital. The Doctors are so excited to have another load of needed medicine and supplies! The planes coming in our so beautiful!!”

The Hands and Feet blog also reports:

“Parakletos International has joined with Friend Ships and identified Jacmel as the city to receive their assistance! Together they have a freighter that will be ready to leave port on Friday, bound for our city! They have been joined by Gary La Blanc of Mercy Chefs, who has offerd to build and staff a kitchen, with professional chefs, as soon as we can get their equipment into Jacmel! Please continue to pray for these relief efforts!!”

So how can you help?Donate money. While it’s nice to think of gathering and sending actual supplies, the truth is that the minsitries and organizations on the ground in Haiti know what they need and likely have access to it in the US or other countries, but it takes money to fuel the planes to get it there.Pray, for the people, the relief teams, and for ministries like Hands and Feet, that they can literally be the hands and feet of Jesus in Haiti. For more about Hands and Feet Project, and to donate money to the relief effort, visit the Hands and Feet website.Got a gospel or Christian music news tip?
