Chris Brown on the 2010 BET Awards – were the tears real?

posted by Joanne Brokaw | 11:48am Monday June 28, 2010

The blogosphere is heating up today with one question: was Chris Brown’s emotional breakdown during last night’s BET Awards was real or staged to elicit sympathy from fans?Brown performed a medley of Michael Jackson songs during a tribute, and when he got to “Man In The Mirror” apparently started sobbing and wasn’t able to continue, at one point falling to his knees. Some viewers thought he might be faking the emotion to garner sympathy from fans as he stages a comeback after a volatile 2009 that included criminal charges for assaulting girlfriend Rihanna and a break from the celebrity limelight. You can judge for yourself; clips of Brown’s performance starts at around :47 on this video. But one thing is for sure: there isn’t any need for him to sing with the backing tracks handling all of the vocals. Just further proof that those awards shows are just one big lip synch. What do you think? Was Brown faking or for real?RELATED POSTS:Chris Brown apologizes over Rihanna incident, seeks pastor’s counselingChris Brown Withdraws From Consideration For Kids’ Choice AwardsVisit my personal blog, Notes From The Funny Farm, and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter!

those tears that chris brown shared was real, and it came from the heart. everybody knew (his fans) that micheal jackson was his idol and his heart and it couldn’t have hurt him more to find out that he passed away. so for him to do a performance dedicating it to micheal jackson, thats the bravest and couragous thing he did and he should shed tears

I think people should mind their business. He without sin cast the first stone. For Beliefnet (a christian network)to focus so much time and energy on such an unimportant matter with so many other tragedies going on in the world and probably in their offices and homes makes them (beliefnet) suspect to me. Get a life, help somebody do better in theirs. Who cares if Chris Brown was for real only he knows anyway. Why is it so important?

Those were true tears, bless his heart. He has been through a lot of BS by dealing with everyone’s crap. He didn’t commit murder. He deserves a second chance. And once a fan and always a fan I still and will always support you Chris!

Thanks for your feedback, everyone! I didn’t see the show but from the clips I thought it was a very sincere moment. I imagine that whole performance was overwhelming – from the emotion of making a comeback and the emotion of remembering Michael Jackson. I was surprised the blogs were burning up with speculation that he was faking.

How in the world can anyone judge with any degree of certainty what is in another’s heart? This is a ridiculous argument and I am sure as “just saying” stated above, why can’t folks mind their own business. Chris Brown is only human, and like any of us, will from time to time fall prey to human frailities. Even the Bible allows for such weaknesses. Therefore, leave the man alone and go out and help someone who needs help today. There are many out there who will treasure any amount of “your free time” spent with them. Have a happy and blessed day!

Judeg not, but let the higher powers judge. Just for comment sake, I don’t believe he would or could fake that one. Chris, could not even keep up with the vocals in the backgroung. (thats embarrassment, think he had enough of that).
Chris was overtaken by emotion;and maybe that was his epiphany. Singing from his heart, that mirror showed him something, Looking inside of himself, a realization that he was changing/had changed.
A spiritual awakening is powerful.
We lose sight of little things, when we are so high and lifted by this natural worlds’ standards. It comes at a high price, and shows us our frailty. Everyday we know we are to examine ourselves.
Maybe Chris did and saw “under the light” that man in the mirror was himself and how one has passed from what was the darkest hour to a Redemptive period naturally and spiritually. This can ultimately bring one to their knees.
But for sure as we all saw, Chris felt something so powerfully overwhelming in his frailness He had to submit in front of so many of thousands of people. I tell you people Our God is that awesome, some times its just the weight of HIS glory that will bring you to your knees…. Chris Brown broken and lifted …God bless you all.

It’s been extremely obvious since the ‘incident’ occurred that the media began a radical slur campaign against Chris. No one takes into account the two previously recorded incidents that were revealed in court both of which claimed that she hit him first on multiple occasions and not once did he hit her(in one case it’s claimed that he pushed her away from him, and in another smashed a car window but not once did he hit her.) it was reported for two years that she was beating him up and because he finally snapped on her he’s suddenly been proclaimed a monster. Yes he was wrong, but so was SHE. This is the fact that people seem to forget and it’s not as if the man tried to convince the world that he was innocent. HE PLEADED GUILTY, owned up to his part of the situation in every interview and has since been trying to turn his life around. Since then every bit of good he’s done has been slandered by the media. First his charity work is blasted as a publicity stunt to get back into hollyweird’s good graces. Then his reading to children is frowned upon because he’s a ‘dangerous criminal’ (let’s remember that MAJORITY of the men in Hollywood have some sort of criminal record). and now because his BET performance was good people are trying to strip it of any sort credibility by saying his tears were fake. LEAVE THE MAN ALONE. If you’re going to point the finger at him then you must also turn around and point at yourselves because no one in this world is innocent.
